| Guest | Losing mail from Hotmail and OE storage, failed imports This is hard to explain, but here goes. On the original install it looked like everything was fine. Hotmail folders were seen in WLM with e-mails in them. OE folders were also seen in WLM with e-mails in them. It looked like everything was imported and moved automatically and effortlessly from Hotmail and OE to WLM. On closer examination I realized most of the folders in WLM from OE and Hotmail were empty or contained only a fraction of the stored mail they had before. Thousands of my e-mails were gone! I see no way to recover the e-mails that were in Hotmail, but fortunately the OE files are still on my hard drive. I then did File>import>Microsoft Outlook Express 6>.... and a lengthy import process occurred with progress bars for every folder, etc. It looked like a proper import process, except the result was a new folder named Imported folder was created under the storage folders heading(my former OE folders) with subfolders grc.com, Hotmail, and Local Folders. Though not ideal, I could live with this, except these folders won't open. I get the message "There are no items in this view". View> current view>show all messages is set. When I go to the mail storage folders, there are a lot more KB in OE folders than WLM folders, so I suspect the files are not truly being imported. Finally, today, within WLM, I moved 6 files from a Hotmail folder to a storage folder, using the 'move to' toolbar button and they were removed from the Hotmail folder, but in checking the the folder they were moved to, I got the message, "There are no Items in this view." Sorry this is so long and wordy. Does anybody know how to fix any of this? Thanks |

| Guest | RE: Losing mail from Hotmail and OE storage, failed imports hello docjerry, i don't know what oe and wlm is but this is what happened to me. just tonight, i signed on to windows live hotmail. when i did that, i wanted to transfer all of my old regular hotmail e mails to windows live. i keyed in my old hotmail address and "nothing" i mean "NOTHING" I have lost a lot of important informaiton, all my contacts, all of the work i have done regarding "jobs" so you know this is a catastrophe. is there any kind of a way that i can retrieve any of my old hotmail account because if i don't i am in trouble and it is going to be a big mess. not only that, msn gave no indication that this was going to happen. i am angry enough to file a lawsuit. can anyone out there tell me what i can do? | Guest | Re: Losing mail from Hotmail and OE storage, failed imports This is a public forum of volunteers discussing Windows Live Mail not Windows Live Hotmail. Those contributing to this forum are not Microsoft, MSN, or Windows Live Mail, or Hotmail personnel. Occasionally Microsoft personnel may read the group. From your earlier response indicating some unknowns on use of OE or WLM(Outlook Express, Windows Live Mail) you may be in the incorrect forum if WLM is not in use.. Rather than send you to another group, it might best to contact support directly. Free Hotmail accounts are entitled to email support. | Guest | Re: Losing mail from Hotmail and OE storage, failed imports kay may I ask what prompted you to migrate your mail from what I assume was a perfectly good working hotmail account (e.g. kay@xxxxxx) to a new Live Hotmail account (e.g. kay@xxxxxx). I have free and subscription hotmail accounts (e.g. tutsbox@xxxxxx), I can't think of why I would want to migrate them to Live accounts (e.g. tutsbox@xxxxxx), I can only think of reasons why I would not want to do that - informing my correspondents of the new mail address for one. I see you mention msn, which has little relevance down under - is it that the msn domain is disappearing ? This is not an idle question , some of the community I support have msn accounts, they're in India. -- TUT If you're going through hell, keep going -- Winston Churchill __________________________________________ "kay" <kay@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:8ADDB5ED-5FED-497D-AC0F-DDEBB4414678@xxxxxx

| Guest | Re: Losing mail from Hotmail and OE storage, failed imports Sorry, we don't cover Windows Live Hotmail in this forum (actually a newsgroup). This newsgroup mainly supports the Windows Live Mail (WLM) program. -- Gary VanderMolen, MS-MVP "kay" <kay@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:8ADDB5ED-5FED-497D-AC0F-DDEBB4414678@xxxxxx

| Guest | Re: Losing mail from Hotmail and OE storage, failed imports Please speak for yourself Gary, I for one, do not share your attitude on these matters If someone asked how to make brownies in here and I knew then I'd tell them. What are brownies anyway, we don't have them here, perhaps Yankee equivalent of vegemite, my dog probably knows. -- TUT salus populi suprema lex esto - Cicero De Legibus, book III, part III, sub. | Guest | Re: Losing mail from Hotmail and OE storage, failed imports Brownies are a rather dense type of cake, usually chocolate. If I remember correctly, chocolate causes health problems for many dogs, so you shouldn't find out if your dog likes them. | Guest | Re: Losing mail from Hotmail and OE storage, failed imports Microsoft went to the bother of setting up a lot of different newsgroups. Responders with expertise in a specific application tend to 'hang out' in the newsgroup that reflects that specialization. So it behooves the user wanting help to seek out the best newsgroup for that issue. If everyone failed to bother using the cognizant newsgroup for their posts, the signal-to-noise ratio in these Microsoft newsgroups would get horrific. If this newsgroup ever gets overrun with Hotmail issues, I'm out of here. -- Gary VanderMolen, MS-MVP "Urbane.Tiger" <viking.warrior@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:NuSdndFNUv5LBsXVnZ2dnUVZ_oHinZ2d@xxxxxx
