| | Re: Unread messagers look like read Are you accessing the same IMAP account from any other PCs, mail clients, or web mail? The read/unread status is shared by all programs accessing an account. So, for example, if you view a message via web mail, when you later download that message to WLM it will show as being read. Also, if you are using any anti-spam software it could potentially affect the read/unread status. This is different than with POP3 accounts where each mail client maintains a separate read/unread status. -- Mike - http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/techhelp.htm "Elling Hamso" <EllingHamso@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:20380C6A-E4B4-4EEE-B2BB-BFF9C6710A7F@xxxxxx Quote: > I use XP and IMAP and most (but not all) new messages appear like they > have > already been read, ie they are not bold. That's not a sufficient differentiator. E.g. lack of difference between read and unread messages regarding just the text may be due to problem with the font used to display the message list. More significantly, if you right-click a message (while the Reading pane is disabled) which command is available to you: Mark as Read or Mark as Unread? Then tell us how you read messages--specifically do you ever use the Reading pane and do you have a Read tab option Mark message read after displaying for [ ] seconds checked and if so what value is used? If so, you need to be aware of a quirk in WLMail which occurs once the Reading pane has been in use: Even if the reading pane is off and you pause too long on an unread message entry the Mark message read... option kicks in and marks the message "read". So, you would need to find a workaround for that; e.g. either watch for messages getting marked read invalidly and marking them unread again or avoiding use of the reading pane or never pausing longer than that number of seconds on an unread message or disabling that Mark message read... option entirely.
