| | Message from "Microsoft Outlook Express team" I got this just now from the "Microsoft Outlook Express Team" "Dear Microsoft Outlook Express customer, "You may have received an e-mail from us letting you know that Microsoft is planning to retire the DAV protocol that Outlook Express uses to access Windows Live Hotmail. In response to customer feedback requesting more time to evaluate alternative solutions, we have decided to postpone retiring DAV and we are investigating other alternatives for accessing Windows Live Hotmail via Outlook Express. This means that if you use Outlook Express to access your Windows Live Hotmail account, you will continue to be able to do so beyond the previously announced June 30 transition deadline. We will be sure to update you once we have additional plans to share and early enough in advance to help ensure a smooth transition in the future." Then it goes on to say that I am always welcome to download and use our next generation free email client, Windows Live Mail. They signed it the "Windows Live Mail Team". Please ignore if this is a duplicate. Timing of these messages and which accounts get them seems to follow some algorithm that I can't guess. Cheers, Earle |

| | RE: Message from "Microsoft Outlook Express team" actually I want to thank MS that they sent out the original message back in April that they will cut of OE users for Hotmail and I switched over to Windows Live Mail email client. It works so much better then OE to check Hotmail accounts. With OE sometimes all the hotmail messages got lost and had to be reloaded. A friend of mine with lots of messages in the inbox had that problem all the time. With Windows Live Mail this has never happened again. There are a few annoyances in the interface of Windows Live mail but overall I find it a very nice upgrade. I have all my friends now switched over to Windows Live Mail from OE and they have no problems either. I just hope the find message bar can be hidden in the future and the the Message header can be shrunk down to OE size. That are the only complaints I have. Inserting GIF support in an email would be great too. |

| | Re: Message from "Microsoft Outlook Express team" I also received this message from the Windows Outlook Express Team but before I upgrade from Outlook Express to Windows Live Mail, I'd like to save a copy of my local email folders. I know that MS OutLook keeps my local email in a ..pst file but I can't find the equivalent for Outlook Express. Where does Outlook Express keep my local email folders? Thanks, Steve "PA Bear [MS MVP]" wrote: Quote: > cf. http://emailsupport.spaces.live.com/...708!5745.entry > -- > ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) > MS MVP-IE, Mail, Security, Windows Desktop Experience - since 2002 > AumHa VSOP & Admin http://aumha.net > DTS-L http://dts-l.net/ > > Earle Horton wrote: Quote: > > I got this just now from the "Microsoft Outlook Express Team" > > > > "Dear Microsoft Outlook Express customer, > > > > "You may have received an e-mail from us letting you know that Microsoft > > is > > planning to retire the DAV protocol that Outlook Express uses to access > > Windows Live Hotmail. | | Re: Message from "Microsoft Outlook Express team" Outlook Express uses DBX files, one per folder. In OE look at Tools, Options, Maintenance, Store Folder. You may need to enable showing system/hidden files and folders to see the actual files and folder. -- Mike - http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/techhelp.htm "Steve Collins" <Steve Collins@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:3A73F427-6A29-4469-A322-14811A756364@xxxxxx Quote: > I also received this message from the Windows Outlook Express Team but > before > I upgrade from Outlook Express to Windows Live Mail, I'd like to save > a copy > of my local email folders. | | Re: Message from "Microsoft Outlook Express team" In Spanish, "depreciar" means "to beg, to implore" but "despreciar" means "to scorn, to despise, to reject". In English spoken by normal people "deprecate" is much closer to the second usage and is often mistaken for "depreciate". http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/deprecate What appears to be happening here, in the normal language, is a case of lexical merging. It is unfortunate that the computer industry has chosen to create a neologism meaning "announce as eventually obsolete" for the same word. Or perhaps the double entendre is either intentional or a Freudian Slip. There are an awful lot of people out there, who use "antiquated" operating systems like W2k, W98 or even XP with no intention of ever, but ever downloading Windows Live Mail. If you are counting heads though I suppose it is good to have them as active Hotmail accounts. The message seems to be saying, "Please don't stop using our service; we need the head count."
