Unable to start

After the install, the first attemp to launch WLM desktop results in the
following messages

Starting for the first time requires an online connection 0x80048883

followed by

WLM desktop could not be started because msmail.dll could not be
initialised.

I am on a dsl line full time, and did try disconnecting and running using my
dial-up account. No luck. Did reboot between each attempt.
When I installed last year it did install with the dial-up after failing
numerous times on the dsl connection. No luck this time.

I am using Windows Vista Ultimate64.
I needed to reinstall Vista due to unrepairable errors.

Re: Unable to start

Well, if there is no way to get this program to initialise, is there any way
to convert my backup file, which I stupidly assumed I could import on a
reinstalled system, to Windows Mail format or some other usable format. I
know now that I should have saved it in a generic format, but, too late now.

Re: Unable to start

Hi John

I think we are scratching out heads on this, well I am, I'd like to ask
couple of questions

1. what is the nature of your physical DSL link - modem/router, ethernet/USB
etc
2. what firewall software are you using
3. are there any spam catchers such as MailWasher, Cactus etc
4 Did you reinstall Vista from original media or a Recovery Disk.

1. Modem(Satellite) Ethernet
2. Windows Vista Firewall I have added WLMD to the firewall allow
(exceptions) and have turned off the firewall during execution. No
success - same messages
3. None
4. Vista was installed from the original media (DVD) and SP1 has not been
installed yet (downloaded but not installed)

Re: Unable to start

Thanks, but I am trying to install and RUN Windows Live Mail DESKTOP. I
have no problems with WLM except having to sign into each account
separately.

Re: Unable to start

Which WLM? Windows Live Messenger, or the program discussed
in this newsgroup, which used to be called Windows Live Mail Desktop
but the last few versions have been called Windows Live Mail instead,
even though that makes it hard to find a good short abbreviation for it?

Re: Unable to start

Windows Live Mail Desktop(WLMd) is obsolete..the current version is Windows Live Mail(WLM), thus the question if the Windows Live
Mail msi
installation file exists on your machine and the link to determine same.

To remove a problem WLM or WLMd installation see
