start in newsgroup mode?

is there a startup switch to do so? I'm using it only for newsgroups now,
so I'd like it to go straight there... didn't find any in help or FAQ.

thanks

Re: start in newsgroup mode?

To open newsgroups when you start WLMail, use the /news or /newsurl
switch. You could create a shortcut like:
"%programfiles%\Windows Live\Mail\wlmail.exe" /news
or
"%programfiles%\Windows Live\Mail\wlmail.exe"
/newsurl:news:microsoft.public.windows.live.mail.desktop
to open in a specific newsgroup.

Re: start in newsgroup mode?

Ildhund,

Is there a way to get WLM to open to the INBOX?.
I tired substituting INBOX for NEWS in your example below,
did not work.

Re: start in newsgroup mode?

I don't think there is any way to do that. WLM opens the folder that
was selected when you last closed it.

Re: start in newsgroup mode?

Michael,

So far, I have to agree with you. I have not been able to find a way to make
it happen.
I did send a ''feedback" requesting it.

Re: start in newsgroup mode?

In Vista(Sp1) with WLM either set or not set to sign in:

**On this machine:**
The Quick Launch bar shortcut "C:\Program Files\Windows Live\Mail\wlmail.exe" /mail
or
Start Menu shortcut "C:\Program Files\Windows Live\Mail\wlmail.exe"
or
Programs Menu shortcut (same as above)
- Opens to the default mail account's Inbox

The Quick Launch bar shortcut "C:\Program Files\Windows Live\Mail\wlmail.exe" /news
Opens to the default news server(not a newsgroup, the server root folder)

Here's one for the gods to figure out...
- If the Quick Launch, Start Menu, or Programs Menu WLM shortcut is used and then the News shortcut in the folder pane, WLM opens
the same newsgroup repeatedly...not first read, or last read, in my case one read quite some time ago, the 4th newsgroup of 22 on
a
news server which by coincidence or unexplained significance is the last alphabetic Server Name not News account name)

Re: start in newsgroup mode?

winston,

I use Vista Ultimate SP1 - WLM shortcut on start menu.
I added your suggested "/mail" switch to the shortcut properties and so far
it opens to
my Inbox, no matter where I was when I left WLM.
Further testing will be required before I send you a check
;-)

Re: start in newsgroup mode?

So far, so good. Seems to work whether I sign in or not.
