| | Whose Email Security Is Being Used? Within WLM I use numerous email applications, each with its own security feature. I also have a security center which also monitors all incoming email. WLM, from what I understand also has its own monitoring security. I am curious, in a situation such as this, which of these security features protects all of my emails within WLM. Just a thought. Thank you, Nissi1 |

| | Re: Whose Email Security Is Being Used? That depends on what you mean by security: Antivirus, anti-spam, anti-phishing, anti-spyware, or just plain privacy? I use just one antivirus product to protect the whole computer, plus the protections already built-in to Vista (Windows Firewall, Windows Defender). -- Gary VanderMolen, MS-MVP "Nissi1" <Nissi1@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:4679BDC3-64D3-410E-890F-EC7E5561A013@xxxxxx Quote: > Within WLM I use numerous email applications, each with its own security > feature. | | Re: Whose Email Security Is Being Used? Thank you Gary for your response. I was just wondering. AOl was my first email service. They use McAfee to protect against spam and email viruses. When I sent/received emails through Hotmail (but not through WLM), it was scanned by Trend Micro. And Goggle uses a security feature to check emails coming through its service, though I forget which. Finally I use McAfee for all my computing needs. With all that security software around I just began to wonder if they would cancel out each other. Just wondering. | | Re: Whose Email Security Is Being Used? Hello Gary, That is what I thought. Interesting though. My computer knowledge is very limited but I do not think these email services with their individual security protection include an option to disable or uninstall that feature. Just a thought. As alwasys, thank you and continued blessings for you and your love ones. Almost all web based security scanners and filters act prior to any local application email scanning or auto-protection(on opening). -- ...winston ms-mvp mail "Nissi1" <Nissi1@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:9F07AA76-3678-4047-A74F-7ED3D3A8AA79@xxxxxx Quote: > Thank you Gary for your response. > > I was just wondering. | | Re: Whose Email Security Is Being Used? Many mail services run anti-virus and anti-spam software at the server. This is independent of anything that you run on your PC, whatever mail client you use on your PC or whether you use the mail service's web mail access. The anti-virus on the mail service is under their complete control. For the anti-spam, they may give you options as to how much it filters or even whether it filters at all. For the mail service filtering, it is applied before or as the incoming message is download into WLM For Outgoing it is applied after or as you send the message from WLM. If you are running any anti-virus set to scan e-mail or anti-spam, it generally inserts itself between WLM and the mail server. -- Mike - http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/techhelp.htm "Nissi1" <Nissi1@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:4679BDC3-64D3-410E-890F-EC7E5561A013@xxxxxx Quote: > Within WLM I use numerous email applications, each with its own > security > feature. | | Re: Whose Email Security Is Being Used? You're welcome. Any antivirus that isn't being used should be uninstalled, because as long as it is installed it will use up some resources. -- Gary VanderMolen, MS-MVP (Mail) "Nissi1" <Nissi1@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:7232AFB0-C664-46C2-8E9F-DE429BDEBBC8@xxxxxx Quote: > Hello Gary, > > That is what I thought. | | Re: Whose Email Security Is Being Used? Where are those other antivirus programs running? If they are running on your machine, it's a bad idea to keep more than one of them installed. However, if they're running on the provider's computers instead, you don't need to count them against the one antivirus program recommended limit.
