| | OE wants to compact folders! Hi, Since I upgraded from OE to Live Mail on our XP Pro laptop, every time I boot up a dialogue box opens saying that "Outlook Express wants to compact folders". Regardless of whether you "OK" or "cancel", it happens again when you boot up. Any ideas how to stop this? Thanks |

For most reliable results do this with no other OE windows open, with it open at the folders root (e.g. Ctrl-y,Home,Enter) and with it in the Working Offline state (Alt-F,W) Quote: > > Any ideas how to stop this? Apparently other programs which try to open OE's message store can cause this. Perhaps you should do some clean-boot troubleshooting (e.g. experiment with msconfig's Startup list) to figure out if you have any you could avoid starting then. | | Re: OE wants to compact folders! You need to ask your question in an OE newsgroup. OE will only ask to compact on closing. -- Ronald Sommer "Rutetuti" <cbickett@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:eUqTEY50IHA.4336@xxxxxx Quote: > Hi, > > Since I upgraded from OE to Live Mail on our XP Pro laptop, every time I > boot up a dialogue box opens saying that "Outlook Express wants to compact > folders". | | Re: OE wants to compact folders! [X-post to OE General] WLMail is not an upgrade from OE, it's a replacement for OE. Did this behavior start after you installed WinXP SP3? If so, did you install WLMail before or after you installed WinXP SP3? -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-IE, Mail, Security, Windows Desktop Experience - since 2002 AumHa VSOP & Admin http://aumha.net DTS-L http://dts-l.net/ Rutetuti wrote: Quote: > Since I upgraded from OE to Live Mail on our XP Pro laptop, every time I > boot up a dialogue box opens saying that "Outlook Express wants to compact > folders". | | Re: OE wants to compact folders! Hi, I have solved the problem by uninstalling OE. I did not realise you could do this, I thought OE was a "must have" as part of the OS. Thanks anyway. | | Re: OE wants to compact folders! You can Remove OE as a Windows Component (via Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs | Add/Remove Windows Components) but you cannot uninstall it.
