WLM Opens Slowly As Compared To OE

WLM opens so slowly as compared to OE.

What is this "Signing In" Process that seems to slow everything down?

The signing in bit when wlm opens up is to sign into live messenger as it's
built into wlm but you can switch that off in tools options , Automatically
log onto windows live messenger , if theres a tick in the box just untick it

Messenger is not built into WLM. Mine takes some time to "Sign In" too but
it sure is not signing in to Live Messenger, because I do not have that
installed. If you have a Live ID and associated mailbox WLM may be logging
into it and synchronizing folders.

The check box to sign into Messenger or not is in Tools, Options, General.

The Sign-in also determines which set of Contacts are in use(Default or Live ID, the latter syncs with a Hotmail/Live/MSN.com
account).

To find out what this does, use Help, View Help and search for "Signin".

It affects several features of WLM.

NOTE: microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie6_outlookexpress was
removed in the newsgroups list since it is NOT related to this
discussion (despite the speed comparison).

Replace "live messenger" with "Windows Live ID account" and you are then
correct.

Re: WLM Opens Slowly As Compared To OE

Yes, thank you.

I've done that -- but it's rather brief and doesn't say you can no longer
share a common contact list with others who use the same computer in XP Pro.

Re: WLM Opens Slowly As Compared To OE

This thread relates to both OE and WLM.

Read The Subject Line.

Signs you in to the Windows Live Service. Allows for synchronizing your
contact list in WLM with your online contact list, and other linked, Windows
Live functions. You can stop it from Tools | Options | Connection. Click on
the "Stop signing in" button. Only available in Windows Live Mail; not an
option with MS Outlook Express.
