Hotmail Junk Filter reset by WLM

I use Windows Desktop Live Mail with XP SP3 to access my mail accounts, one
of which is a Windows Live Hotmail account.

To stop spam, I keep setting the Options in Hotmail for Junk Filter to
Exclusive and Delete Junk Mail to Immediately and then Save the options. I
sign out , sign back in and verify that these options have been saved OK.

However as soon as I check my Hotmail account by doing a Send/Receive in
Windows Desktop Live Mail the Hotmail Junk Filter setting is reset to Low and
the Delete Junk Mail setting to Later.

Is this a feature or a bug?

Re: Hotmail Junk Filter reset by WLM

Sorry, after testing with 4 different Hotmail accounts, can't duplicate in WLM...
You might wish to contact Hotmail Support.

Re: Hotmail Junk Filter reset by WLM

I have Junk Mail filtering turned off in WLM and this seems to cause the
problem.

Some further testing revealed that if I change my Safety Options in WLM to
"Safe List Only" then doing a WLM Send/Receive leaves the Hotmail setting
unchanged on Exclusive (though still changes the Delete Junk Mail back to
Later).

Re: Hotmail Junk Filter reset by WLM

I think I have solved my problem. It was being caused by WLM Desktop
synchronizing the Junk Filter settings in Hotmail with the ones that I have
in WLM Desktop.

My regular email accounts are with my internet service provider. I use
Mailwasher to remove junk mail from these non-Hotmail accounts before the
mail is downloaded into Windows Live Mail Desktop on my computer. Because of
this, I switch off the Windows Live Mail Desktop Junk filter so that none of
my mail is incorrectly sent to the Junk folders and forgotten about.

I only use my Hotmail account when I am travelling. I communicate with my
family and no one else so I want to junk all mail except from specified
addresses so that I don't have to sort through a lot of spam mail on slow
speed internet connections in Internet cafes. So I want to use Exclusive
access for Hotmail.

However when I am not travelling I still check my Hotmail account via
Windows Live Mail Desktop once a week for any messages from Microsoft. It
would seem that when I do that Windows Live Mail Desktop detects that the
Hotmail Junk mail settings are different to the Windows Live Mail Desktop
settings and "corrects" the Hotmail ones.

The solution was to select "Stop signing in" in Tools/Options/Connection in
WLM Desktop.

Re: Hotmail Junk Filter reset by WLM

Interesting. The common opinion here seems to be that WLM's
Junk E-mail settings have no effect on Hotmail's filter settings,
and vice versa.

That is not what I just experienced. The Windows Live Hotmail settings were
not changed, even after I changed the settings in Windows Live Mail.

Re: Hotmail Junk Filter reset by WLM

I've yet to duplicate this by changing something from either end or exactly as suggested earlier.
