try Gary VanderMolen's suggestion

"Try this. Close WLM. Go to Hotmail on the web, and clean out all
the folders. If you want to save any messages, create a new folder
and move those messages to the new folder. Empty the thrash also.
Remember that when you restart WLM, it will try to sync with the new
folder status on the web, so be sure you have moved any important
email to a storage folder. "
