Blocked sender list does not work

I keep getting promotional messages from a disk defrag company, despite the
fact that I've added it to my blocked senders list. Where's the catch ?
Also, the 'blocked senders list' tab in the 'safety options' says : "when i
click 'delete and block'........" Where is such a button ? Cannot find it in
my toolbar, only 'delete' or 'junk'. In brief, it seems like the whole spam
section is kind of flaky or isn't it ?
Thanks to those that will help.

Re: Blocked sender list does not work

The block is done on the e-mail address in the From header, not any name
associated with it. Take a look at the message source (Ctrl-F3) of the
incoming messages to make sure that it matches what you have blocked.

Re: Blocked sender list does not work

I just found out that the spam filter does not work for IMAP accounts ! In
any case, where is the 'delete and block' button ?

Re: Blocked sender list does not work

I've never seen a Delete & Block button.

Re: Blocked sender list does not work

I see a sentence fragment there that says

When I click "Delete and block:"

but there is no actual button marked "Delete and Block".

Re: Blocked sender list does not work

The first time I open an HTML-format message (IMAP or POP) along the top of
the email window, I see a "Delete and block" link. To it's right, is an
option to enable/download web images. I haven't tried "Delete and block"
yet. I don't think this option is available for all HTML-format messages.
Maybe it only appears on ones that have referenced web image?

Re: Blocked sender list does not work

Now that you mention it, I think I have seen this on incoming emails
that were designated as "Phishing". I seldom get those anymore.

Re: Blocked sender list does not work

Now that we kind of agree that there is no 'button' in WLM settings to enable Delete and Block....<g>

The method to enable the option in an html email is accomplished by Tools/Safety Options/Security/Download Images
- place a check in Block images and other external content in Html email

An Html email with images in the message when viewed in Preview mode or a separate window will have an additional notice at the top of the message

Clicking the first will move the message to the account's Deleted items folder and also add the sender to the Blocked Senders list.
How and if it 'bounces back messages to the sender' or its inherent selective criteria has not been well documented.
- Fyi...Sending en html email from an external source(another person, web ui of an isp, hotmail ui) to a WLM pop3 or http account with or without the sending address as a WLM contact does not appear to generate the above prompt; whereas external messages including some common Windows Live(e.g. Alerts, Spaces) and Msft(Technet, Msft newsletters, etc) generated html notices do. Thus....ymmv.

Caution is warranted in using this since many forms of spam spoof the sender as the intended recipient, ie. one could inevitably add their own email address to the Block Sender list. If WLM's security option for Junk Mail is set to delete immediately, valid messages may never be seen!

Re: Blocked sender list does not work

The spamers send the e-mail with a little differnet title and it gets
through, even though it is alwasys prefecd by "career Institutes"--many if
not all will not let you to tell them you do not want any more of there
e-mail. I just scan the junk-mail and delete. On the in-box I stick to the
ones I know and don't open up the e-mail at all.
