WLM in news only mode without feeds or e-mailbutton

I've installed Windows Live Mail thrice to use it as a newsreader only.
So I've tried the options wlmail.exe /news and wlmail.exe /outnews. In both
cases I get the newsprogram opened with the feeds and e-mail button. I
already use Outlook 2007 for e-mail and feeds so I don't need them a second
time.

Outlook Express can be opened in news only mode or as Outlook Newsreader
without any e-mail buttons with the options msimn.exe /news or msimn.exe /
outnews.

Is this possible with Windows Live Mail?
I already looked in the registry and was wondering if something had been
installed incorrectly.

Thanks, Jan (Netherlands)

Re: WLM in news only mode without feeds or e-mailbutton

If you don't add email accounts or feeds, won't WLM only do newsgroups?

Re: WLM in news only mode without feeds or e-mailbutton

WLM takes all the feeds that I already have in Outlook and in Internet
Explorer.
That can't be turned off. I've searched for the option not to receive feeds
in WLM, but couldn't find that.

I didn't add an e-mailaccount, so WLM only did feeds and newsgroups.

But I can't get rid of the buttons in the left under corner. The same with
the Inbox.
It's just that I should like to have WLM worked like Outlook Express did:
only in Newsreader mode, without those other buttons.

Re: WLM in news only mode without feeds or e-mailbutton

Thanks for the answer. I did not found that. But I'll have to re-install WLM
again.

But may I ask, if you use the option wlmail.exe / news or wlmail.exe
/outnews in Run, do you get the e-mailbutton and the normal e-mail Inbox?

Re: WLM in news only mode without feeds or e-mailbutton

WLM will open to this newsgroup with this shortcut.
"C:\Program Files\Windows Live\Mail\wlmail.exe"
/newsurl:news:microsoft.public.windows.live.mail.desktop

"C:\Program Files\Windows Live\Mail\wlmail.exe" /news will open to
newsgroups.

WLM will open to the Inbox with this shortcut.
"C:\Program Files\Windows Live\Mail\wlmail.exe" /mail

You could use WLMail's so-called "compact" Folders view.
That would stack those tabs in one column.

Re: WLM in news only mode without feeds or e-mailbutton

I've made a change with:

"C:\Program Files\Windows Live\Mail\wlmail.exe" /outnews /news

In this way WLM opens as Microsoft Outlook-newsprogram. Funny, then there is
also another icon for the program.

Re: WLM in news only mode without feeds or e-mailbutton

Thanks for the tip. I shall give it a try.
But I wonder if one could change the registry to have those buttons
disappear in the left corner below.

Re: WLM in news only mode without feeds or e-mailbutton

The only difference I can tell is the presence of Microsoft Outlook Newsreader above the Menu bar.

The same 4 icons are present(Mail, Contacts, Feeds, Newsgroups) and the same functionality as using:
"C:\Program Files\Windows Live\Mail\wlmail.exe" /news

Fyi...the same will occur if one switches to Mail, no Inbox for any account, and possibly a dysfunctional Quick views.
