| | Sync with Contacts Is there a way to sync the Contacts in WLM with those for Windows Vista home premium itself (i.e. the name.contact files)? I know you can import the 'address book for current user', however that creates duplicates of ones already there. I would like to sync them automatically or with minimal effort. Thanks, Michael |

| | Re: Sync with Contacts The Windows Live Contacts in the Vista User Profile Contacts folder are placed there(for syncing) by Windows Live Messenger. To avoid the duplicates in the export, the contacts need to be encrypted via Windows Live Messenger(Tools/Options/Security/Encrypt contact list data...) - encrypting changes the contacts file extension from *.Contact to *.WindowsLiveContacts and prevents being used in a csv or vcard export. Are you trying to sync the Contacts with Vista's Windows Mail(WM is provided with all versions of Vista, ie. Home Premium is not unique) and have a common contact list in WLM and WM ? Where are you trying to import and export(in WLM, WM, or accessing the Contacts folder in your user profile with Windows Explorer ? Please provide any other pertinent info if necessary.. -- ...winston ms-mvp mail Quote: > "Michael Walraven" <mexxwalraven@xxxxxx> wrote in message news C1139EF-0C0B-4754-82E2-E3D05B53314B@xxxxxxQuote: >> Is there a way to sync the Contacts in WLM with those for Windows Vista home premium itself (i.e. the name.contact files)? >> >> I know you can import the 'address book for current user', however that creates duplicates of ones already there. | | Re: Sync with Contacts There is a set of contacts at C:\USERS\name\Contacts There is another set of contacts held by Windows Live Mail. (I don't know how/where that is held however.) I would like the contents of these two areas to be synchronized, without duplicate entries being created. I don't use Windows Mail (that came with Vista) so don't care about that specifically. Also don't care about Windows Live Messenger synchronization but would not object if that also happened. | | Re: Sync with Contacts I check addresses when Windows Live Mail is not open by using 'wab' (actualy just goes to c:\users\name\Contacts rather than the old WAB from XP). I want those addresses to be the same as those I would get from inside Windows Live Mail. Perhaps there is a way to get to the contacts that are within Windows Live Mail without opening the Windows Live Mail program? | | Re: Sync with Contacts There is a way, but it is about as much trouble as opening WLM. Create a shortcut such as: C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail\Contacts\Default if you do not use a Live ID sign-in, or if you do: C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail\Contacts\LiveID\real In either case replace 'username' with your actual Windows username, and substitute your actual Live ID. This opens the folder the contacts are in. Open an individual contact to see its data. -- Gary VanderMolen, MS-MVP (Mail) "Michael Walraven" <mexxwalraven@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:50AC5137-EE99-440D-9938-145EBB95C3B1@xxxxxx Quote: >I check addresses when Windows Live Mail is not open by using 'wab' (actualy > just goes to c:\users\name\Contacts rather than the old WAB from XP).
