Comcast does support Windows Mail, which uses identical settings

    Re: WML and Comcast

Windows XP includes Outlook Express by default. Vista includes Windows
    Mail by default.

You cannot have Outlook Express with Vista. Similarly, you cannot use
    Windows Mail with Windows XP.

The Windows Live Mail program is a new mail client, which can be
installed on Win XP or Vista systems.

You are running Win XP, so you have a choice between Outlook Express OR
Windows Live Mail as your default mail client - OR you could install a
    third party mail client.

Outlook Express has been around for many years. It isn't perfect.
However, most of the bugs have been eradicated and it works well with
POP3/SMTP mail servers. It also works with HTTP servers - although
Hotmail gave notice that users would not be able to use OE in
conjunction with its HTTP servers after 30 June 2008. Hotmail have
postponed that decision for the time being - but it may be reintroduced
    at a later date.

Windows Live Mail is a relatively new program, which has been heralded
as the successor to Outlook Express (for Win XP) and Windows Mail (for
Vista). It is clear from this newsgroup that not all of the bugs have
    been identified or eradicated.

So which is best? That is a matter of opinion. If you are running Win
XP and do not require access to the Hotmail HTTP mail server, I would be
inclined to stick with Outlook Express - particularly if OE works OK
with Comcast and WLMail doesn't (even though the account settings should
    be identical).

If you require access to the Hotmail HTTP mail server, you may have no
alternative but to move to Windows Live Mail - sooner or later.

    Yes, what happened there?

Why did they back off from the 30 June 2008 date, after having announced it?

For Windows XP: You already have MS Outlook Express, a component of MS
Internet Explorer 6. You can't install Windows Mail on a Windows XP
    computer.

For use with Comcast, the email settings for Windows Live Mail (which will
work on a Windows XP computer) are the same as for MS Outlook Express, and
pretty much in the same menu locations.

There are some significant differences between Windows Live Mail and MS
Outlook Express; if you are an adventurer, who likes to try new things,
there are aspects of WLM which recommend it over MSOE. If you are a
stubborn, set in your ways kind of guy who *HATES* changes, stick with MSOE.
