Relocating WLM data

Has anyone seen this for Outlook Express?

http://www.insideoutlookexpress.com/backup/clone.htm

I'm considering switching to Live Mail but my current setup uses the advice
on the above webpage to move all my OE data (mail, accounts, rules) to
another hard disk. That way if I have to do a reinstall of Windows, all I
need to do is double-click on the four registry entries I have saved and OE
will find my data and be as it was before I reinstalled. Does away with
having to reinput my registry settings and rules again!

I wondered if anyone had come up with a Live Mail equivalent?

Re: Relocating WLM data

The procedure would be similar for WLM.

Moving the message store is similar. The location in the dialog is
slightly moved to Tools, Options, Advanced, Maintenance, Store Folder.

Unlike the OE address book, the WLM contacts are in the store folder, no
nothing additional needs to be done for that.

For the accounts, you can export to IAF files. That's described here:
How to Backup Windows Live Mail Accounts, Contacts and Messages
http://liveunplugged.spaces.live.com...90CA!174.entry

As for the registry, it's stored at
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail

Since WLM doesn't support Identities, there's nothing to deal with that.

Re: Relocating WLM data

Fyi...to add...which I didn't cover in the blog..
For http accounts(hotmail, msn, live.com) previously used in OE and migrated to WLM or imported using an iaf file may continue to
use the older WebDAV protocol servers.

Once the accounts are migrated or imported(iaf) into WLM check the accounts server properties..

If not using the DeltaSync server, then change it to:
http://mail.services.live.com/DeltaS....0.0/Sync.aspx

(Note...the above is server not a clickable url, it is only for cut/paste into WLM)

Re: Relocating WLM data

See "WLM->Options-<Tools->Advanced->Maintenace->StoreFolder" here you can
specify where mail is to be stored - could be a shared folder on another
computer I guess, I have mine on my external Raid Array.

Excellent stuff, very many thanks to you all for your help. Guess I'd
better set-to and see what happens now. After a cursory glance, WLM does
look like it handles everything easier, emails in individual files,
contacts in individual files.

Winstonmvp, are you the originator of the original website? If so my
eternal gratitude, it has saved me loads of hassle in the past!

Re: Relocating WLM data

Not sure what you mean by 'original web site'
If you meant
http://liveunplugged.spaces.live.com
then yes that's mine..
