| | WLMD automatically subscribes to contact updates Each time WLMD starts it automatically subscribes to contact updates (for every single contact). I then have to manually unsubscribe, only for it to do the same the next time I start it. How do I prevent this? |

What is it that tells you that WLMail (There's been no 'D' in the app's name for more than a year) is automatically subscribing to contact updates? And how do you go about manually unsubscribing? -- Noel |

| | Re: WLMD automatically subscribes to contact updates When WLMail launches it subscribes to contact updates for all my messenger contacts. For each contact the subscribe box becomes ticked and for each contact it states that a request for contact updates is pending (this is also reflected in hotmail). I have to manually unsubscribe for each contact. I can use hotmail and messenger happily with no problem. However as soon as I launch WLMail it subscribes. Which means the application is unusable to me. | | Re: WLMD automatically subscribes to contact updates Close Windows Live Mail - ensure the WLM processes is ended in Windows Task Manager. If not ended then Ctrl Shift Esc/select wlmail.exe/End Process Open Windows Live Messenger Right click each Messenger Contact and click Unsubsribe - or Edit each contact unsubscribe. Note: Only contacts that have an Instant Messaging address can be unsubscribed Open WLM to update the changes in WLM's contact files for unsubscribe Contact updates will cease, but synchronization will occur to ensure contacts are common across WLM, Hotmail UI, and Messenger. -- ...winston ms-mvp mail "irevans" <irevans@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:9C3E8F59-AD11-4B05-B5C3-12782843F1DA@xxxxxx Quote: > Each time WLMD starts it automatically subscribes to contact updates (for > every single contact). | | Re: WLMD automatically subscribes to contact updates I realise that I can unsubscribe from contact updates via messenger (or via hotmail). The problem is that if I launch WLM they become subscribed again. I then have to go through the painful process you describe to unsubscribe for each and every contact. I happily use hotmail and mesenger with no problem and have given up on WLM because of this issue. | | Re: WLMD automatically subscribes to contact updates I unsubscribed 3 contacts...after 3 restarts and a dozen or so open and closing of WLM and WLMsgr over the last 28 hours..they're still unsubscribed in both applications....not sure what you are doing differently. -- ...winston ms-mvp mail "irevans" <irevans@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:82A19B6C-4E66-4DD2-A026-3F91CBC0A249@xxxxxx Quote: > I realise that I can unsubscribe from contact updates via messenger (or via > hotmail). | | Re: WLMD automatically subscribes to contact updates I said this was mysterious. The 'Help' file seems to have changed between the time of your OP and now, but it may be that I just landed on a slightly different page when searching for "update". When you originally posted, I checked Help which said that "an e-mail is sent" to any contact you subscribe to updates for. Now it says "A request is sent to the contact, who has the option to accept or decline. If your request is accepted, the contact's information is automatically updated in your address book whenever the contact changes their information." I suspect that this is a Messenger thing which does not integrate completely into WLMail; it involves Spaces as well (under whose umbrella 'contact information' beyond the basic is stored). Knowing that the 'an e-mail is sent' bit was patently wrong (because none of my contacts where this option is selected have ever received any e-mail to that effect), I just ignored the fact that I don't seem to be able to Unsubscribe to updates, and it's made no difference at all. Most of my contacts have 'Updates pending'. So, my advice is - don't worry about it. It could well be that when you and one of your contacts are online and signed into Messenger at the same time that something will happen if that contact's details have changed, but this can only be helpful. Whether the Subscribe box gets checked or not seems to depend on how the contact is added, and there's not much consistency about it. It will probably come right in Wave 3 - until then, as I said, don't worry about it. It's certainly not a reason to stop using WLMail. -- Noel "irevans" <irevans@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:13EE4D74-D530-4E73-926E-C88E187D4721@xxxxxx Quote: > When WLMail launches it subscribes to contact updates for all my > messenger > contacts. | | Re: WLMD automatically subscribes to contact updates This type of "behind the scenes" poorly documented activity is one of the reasons I won't have Messenger on any of my computers. I guess I'm just a little paranoid. :-) -- Gary VanderMolen, MS-MVP (Mail) "Ildhund" <jnllb@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:uuJpBPZ9IHA.4820@xxxxxx Quote: >I said this was mysterious.
