| | accessing WLM from 2 different computers I have set up a WLM account on both my home and work computers accessing the same Pop 3 email account. However- if I click on a message and delete it at WORK - it still shows as a new message on my HOME computer. Is there a setting I'm missing so my account is current no matter what computer I am using. THanks for any help!! |

| | Re: accessing WLM from 2 different computers To get what you want you really need to use IMAP rather than POP3. You can get close to this specific issue with POP3 by using Tools, Accounts, Mail, Properties, Advanced. Select the option to Remove from the server when deleted from Deleted Items. But even with that setting you need to go through 3 steps: 1) Delete the message at Work 2) Empty the Deleted Items at Work 3) Do another send and receive at Work Only after all that will the message be removed from the server and so not available for home to download. Although even with all this, it might not work with some POP3 servers. -- Mike - http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/techhelp.htm "Ryan" <Ryan@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:2FA4C442-37C1-4395-8DC9-E640B8008E8B@xxxxxx Quote: > I have set up a WLM account on both my home and work computers > accessing the > same Pop 3 email account. THanks for any help!! With MOST (but not all) POP3 servers, the mail client on your local computer (i.e. programs such as WLMail, Outlook Express, etc) performs the following functions - in the following order: a) Logs onto the server with your user name and password b) Downloads the full list of messages in your inbox on the server c) Downloads those messages that have not been downloaded previously and d) Deletes downloaded messages from the server If you need to download and read messages on more than one computer, you can configure WLMail to leave a copy of the messages on the server. This prevents immediate deletion from the server - and facilitates download to a second computer. There are two subsidiary configuration options (under Accounts | Mail | Advanced): a) Remove from server after xx days. This is a very useful option, to prevent a build-up of messages in your inbox, which might otherwise become full, and/or b) Remove from server when deleted from "Deleted Items". This removes individual downloaded messages from the POP3 server, as soon as you delete them from your local email client. The POP3 server at GMail / Googlemail is a notable exception to the general rule. Once you have downloaded a message from GMail, it is normally unavailable for download to a second computer. If you need to access GMail messages from multiple computers, you need to adopt a special configuration (in addition to leaving messages on the server). Firstly, you must configure your mail account settings in WLMail to leave a copy of messages on the server. Then, change the sign-in name from "myname@xxxxxx" to "recent:myname@xxxxxx". |

| | Re: accessing WLM from 2 different computers Hello, The problem you are having is not you it is POP3 and how it works. POP3 is designed to work on 1 computer only. So it downloads the messages on to the computer and then it downloaded and you make changes.. If you go to another computer it will still be in the Inbox ect. that is how the system work. I dont know if your email provider does IMAP which would be better for your needs. | | Re: accessing WLM from 2 different computers That's not why... WLM defaults to leave messages on the server, unless changed by the user. Pop3 mail downloaded to an inbox on one machine, when WLM is configured to not leave on the server, will not be available for download on another machine. I.e. the it will be available only in the Inbox of the first machine. Note: Google Mail is an exception. Message will remain in the Google web interface. -- ...winston ms-mvp mail "John-Paul Dickie" <gingie_2k7@xxxxxx> wrote in message news D520109-819A-456D-AD51-DF2AAC5A51BA@xxxxxxQuote: > Hello, > > The problem you are having is not you it is POP3 and how it works. > > POP3 is designed to work on 1 computer only.
