songs as back ground

I can send an email with sounds from the "media" folder as background. When
I click sounds as background the system defaults to the media folder and I
select a sound from there it works. If I go to the music folder and select a
song then nothing happens. Am I doing something wrong?

Re: songs as back ground

What kind of files are you inserting? WAV, MID, etc.

If WAV files work, but MID don't seem to, it could be an issue of your
volume control. Open the volume control (speaker icon in the system
tray) and increase the volume for the SW Synthesizer (or may have a
somewhat different name).

Re: songs as back ground

I have quite a few songs and they all seem to be .WMA (windows media audio).
I found one album that the songs work but have tried several others with no
results. The volume seems just fine.

Re: songs as back ground

I have found others that work and some that don't and a pattern has emerged.
Songs that I loaded on the system from my own CD's work (so far) and songs
that I down loaded from OUSE or whatever their name was does not work . Will
continue to investigate.

Re: songs as back ground

Background sounds not embedding in an e-mail message is a known bug in WLMail.

Thus, if one moves a sound file that one has inserted into a message, the sound will not play, because the sound is only linked to the location on the computer, not embedded into the message.

It is a known bug, which was evident in WLMail 12.0.1365, and not rectified for WLMail 12.0.1606. It was discussed here extensively in September and November last year. Following is one of my responses to one of those discussions:

<quote>
I tested this by applying a small .wav sound file as background format and sent the email to myself. The sound did initially play in WLMail and OE on my computer when I received it. I then removed that sound from its folder on my computer. Afterward the background sound would not play in either WLM or OE.

Ctrl+F2 for this e-mail (before sending *and* after receiving) shows: <BGSOUND balance=0 src="D:\Peter's Documents\My Music\Sounds\New Mail sounds\gotmail00.wav" volume=0 loop=2>

So it would appear that the sound was not actually embedded.

Doing the same thing composing with Outlook Express gave a different result.

Ctrl+F2 before sending shows: <BGSOUND balance=0 src="D:\Peter's Documents\My Music\Sounds\New Mail sounds\gotmail00.wav" volume=0 loop=2> whereas, Ctrl+F2 after receiving the OE composed email shows: <BGSOUND balance=0 src="cid:000f01c7fcc8$98dd7ee0$0101a8c0@xxxxxx" volume=0 loop=2>

However, this e-mail composed with OE played the sound correctly when opened in OE, but would not play when opened in WLMail.

Re: songs as back ground

That could be the issue. Downloaded songs often get into DRM (Digital
Rights Management). Things are built into the files to prevent playing
them on other PCs. It could also limit what applications can play the
song.
