| | "Phantom" unread emails -- in fact "sent" emails in "recovered" fo Windows Live Mail 2008 12.0.1606 on XP Home SP3 Almost every day I find two or three emails in my "Quick Views/Unread e-mail" folder which are in fact emails that I have sent using WLM from my HoTMaiL account; they are also in my HoTMaiL "Sent items" folder, but note that not all my sent emails are also in the "Unread" folder. There does not appear to be any pattern in the email addresses that are appearing in the "Unread" folder, and I rarely shut my system down in disorderly manner. I hibernate the system daily but again this doesn't seem to match the patten of the emails appearing in the "Unread" folder. Whenever "phantom" email appears , a "Storage Folders/Recovered Items" folder containing them has also been created that day, although the emails in the folder may be from the previous two or three days. I m not receiving error or informational messages from WLM and the application log in the event viewer is empty. |

| | Re: "Phantom" unread emails -- in fact "sent" emails in "recovered" folder Paul, you will find that when a message is 'recovered', it will appear under the 'Recovered items' folder as an unread message. Thus, a recovered e-mail message will also appear in the 'Unread e-mail' 'Quick view'. You can prove this by marking the 'recovered' message as read. It will then disappear from the 'Unread e-mail' 'Quick view', but remain in the 'All e-mail' 'Quick view'. Note that the 'Quick views' are not folders at all but more or less akin to search results. If such a recovered message is not missing from its normal folder, you can simply delete it from under the 'Recovered items' folder. Remember that if you delete the 'Recovered items' folder (or any other folder), your Quick views will break, and you will have to repair them as described in the article at: http://liveunplugged.spaces.live.com...90CA!205.entry -- Cheers, Peter (Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 with Windows Live Mail 12.0.1606) "There are more things in Heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy." - Shakespeare --------------- "PaulOnTopOfTheHill" <PaulOnTopOfTheHill@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:628489B9-EA01-466E-B12B-96424A085E98@xxxxxx Quote: > Windows Live Mail 2008 12.0.1606 on XP Home SP3 > > Almost every day I find two or three emails in my "Quick Views/Unread > e-mail" folder which are in fact emails that I have sent using WLM from my > HoTMaiL account; they are also in my HoTMaiL "Sent items" folder, but note > that not all my sent emails are also in the "Unread" folder. > > There does not appear to be any pattern in the email addresses that are > appearing in the "Unread" folder, and I rarely shut my system down in > disorderly manner. | | Re: "Phantom" unread emails -- in fact "sent" emails in "recovered Thanks for taking the trouble to respond Peter, but your reply serves only to recapitulate what I have already stated and then goes on to tell me what I know already. What I am seeking to understand is why WLM is "recovering" some messages, when there is no indication that there is a problem. I've sent this problem in to MS Support for comment but I posted here in case anyone else on the forum (end user or MS staffer) has seen this and knows what causes it and/or how to resolve it. | | Re: "Phantom" unread emails -- in fact "sent" emails in "recovered LOL, now you tell me Paul. Well, if the database is corrupted, WLMail first tries to restore it from the database backup. Often though, new messages have been received since the database was backed up. Such messages don't have entries in the database and are therefore 'recovered' during the restoration of the database. What corrupts the database? Sadly this is considered inevitable, but invasive programs such as virus scanners are a likely culprit. Also hardware failures, commit failures due to a crash or a premature shutdown of Windows (due to power failure etc.). -- Cheers, Peter (Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 with Windows Live Mail 12.0.1606) "There are more things in Heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy." - Shakespeare --------------- "PaulOnTopOfTheHill" <PaulOnTopOfTheHill@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:1A1FDE72-8135-46AC-9BC4-70F0DE8FE656@xxxxxx Quote: > Thanks for taking the trouble to respond Peter, but your reply serves only > to recapitulate what I have already stated and then goes on to tell me what I > know already. > > What I am seeking to understand is why WLM is "recovering" some messages, > when there is no indication that there is a problem. > > I've sent this problem in to MS Support for comment but I posted here in > case anyone else on the forum (end user or MS staffer) has seen this and > knows what causes it and/or how to resolve it. > > Paul > > "Peter.R" wrote: > Quote: >> Paul, you will find that when a message is 'recovered', |
