exporting contacts

In exporting contacts the first and last names are omitted and replaced with
"name missing" excepting the first 50+ records and last 20+ records. I am
using XP pro sr2 as the operating system and have the latest build for live
mail. I am getting the same results on a computer at the office as well as
one at home.

Any help.

Re: exporting contacts

.... and to add to winston's queries, are you sure that the First
Name and Last Name fields are filled in WLMail contacts? Some
sources may call these fields something else (like Name1, Name2) so
they don't get mapped to the right fields when they're imported,
even though the Name field might be complete with both first and
last name. So, where did the contacts with the missing name come
from? I have a load that I think came originally from Outlook 2000
where all I get is <Name missing>. Outlook 2003 is OK.

Re: exporting contacts

They are being exported from WLM to a .csv file or .vcf on the existing Hard
dirve. It doesn't matter which format I use. I get the same result. My
object is to setup the contacts in a new computer at the office. Without
success at the office I tried it on my home computer with the same results
using a different database.

Re: exporting contacts

I've checked the fields in WLM and they seem to be correct.

The contacts were exported from Outlook Express 6. In OE the data looks
correct as well as in the WLM contacts. Its only when I export WLM contacts
to a .csv or .vcf format. Looking at the .csv file the first, middle and
last names are empty. The Display name field has "name missing" along with
the email address and then the field for the email has the email address.

'Seem to be'? In the Contacts window, if you have Tile view
(possibly with Preview pane showing), you can't tell whether the
First Name and Last Name fields are populated or not. Switch to List
view (on the View menu), click on the first column header and select
First Name, on the second Last Name and on the third Name. Are the
entries there or not in the first two columns?

If they are, the next thing to check is that the First Name and Last
Name fields are selected on the second page of the Export wizard.

Sorry to be pedantic about this, but I find it very unlikely that
you have the same fault on two different installations, so either
your data are incomplete or you're doing something wrong in the
export process.

Re: exporting contacts

Signed on with a Windows Live ID ?
Not Signed On with Windows Live ID ?

When viewing the Contacts in WLM are the first and last names filled in ?
When Exporting the Contacts in WLM are you selecting the First and Last Name fields on the screen that prompts "Select the fields
you wish to export"
- Note the default does not enable the First, Last, Middle, Nickname fields(the user must toggle it on)
If the fields were selected then when viewing the CSV file in Excel are the first and last names fields filled in ?

Re: exporting contacts

Shift-Ctrl-C or click the second icon at the foot of the left-hand
Folder pane. Contacts use their own window with its own menus;
you'll find Export on the File menu. If you don't see the menus, hit
Alt to show them for a single operation or click the little arrow to
the left of the Help question mark on the toolbar and select Show
all menus if you want them permanently visible - until you Hide them
the same place, that is.

You could, of course, click that question mark and put 'contacts'
into the search box...
