If your question is about Windows Live Mail (WLM) you should post
in the WLM newsgroup:

microsoft.public.windows.live.mail.desktop

Re: Making Inbox subject and post headers a larger font in windows live mail

There are a couple of things you can try, none of them really
satisfactory.
(1) Increase the nominal dpi of your monitor. A 10% increase here
will increase the font size by 10% on the screen. This is of course
a system-wide setting, so it will apply to everything on your
screen. It will also foul up the way many websites are displayed.
(2) Reduce the resolution of your monitor (e.g. from 1280 x 1024 to
1024 x 768). The display of images will not be as crisp as at the
higher resolution, but text will be bigger.
(3) Turn on High Contrast in your accessibility options, if that's
available in Vista. You can then specify a preferred font type and
size in Display properties. This is also system-wide and will cause
almost everything to display differently. This works reasonably well
for my tired old eyes.
(4) Wait a couple of weeks for the next version of WLMail, where the
legibility issue might have been addressed. Don't bank on it,
though.
(5) Get some new glasses ;-)

Probably need new glasses. Some of my bits are getting older at a faster
rate than the rest. Lol!

Upping the dpi is not too bad. I have been able to adjust most settings IE
included to make it all view normally whilst the live mail headers are
definitely more readable. I've had a look at most of my regular IE pages and
all are viewing fine with small/smaller fonts set.

The only thing now is that the task bar, 3D objects and toolbars are a bit
big, but to be honest I can probably live with that.

The problem with upping the dpi used be in game programs, used to get
overlapping menus etc. I dont know whether that will happen in Vista, but
to be honest I dont play games that often. I have yet to test my
graphical/embroidery software but I would guess they will be adjustable and
would probably be running them on the XP pc anyway.

Thanks.

Couldnt get on with the higher dpi. In the end spent hours adjusting
everthing else to look the way I like it, but couldnt get it quite right. It
did give me some better features but also some I didnt like so overall
hanging in there with windows mail. Uninstalled windows live mail for now.
Hopefully its next release will allow the user to change the headers etc
from the tiny size.

I think perhaps MS forgets that a lot of its paying customers are older and
will have difficult with that small print. Maybe its assumed that we would
not go for the newer programs?

Re: Making Inbox subject and post headers a larger font in windows live mail

I'm well along in my sixties but have no trouble with the default fonts
in WLM. I'm running on a 15.4 inch wide-screen laptop with resolution
set at 1280 x 800 pixels. Have you tried lowering your screen resolution?

And theres me thinking you were much younger.

)

I did try a change in resolution as well but couldnt get other things
looking right. Part of the issue is the style of font. I find Verdana or
Tahoma very much easier on the eye, especially in the smaller sizes. I
obviously have some vision anomalies as well, for instance if I use clear
type smoothing I see red flashes at the edge of some fonts.

I'll just have to hope they allow adjustment in the next version. Its seems
( googling) its not just me having problems with it being too small.

Re: Making Inbox subject and post headers a larger font in window

I am offended by the sugestion to get new glasses. For those of who have
visual impairments (ex., corneal disease and transplant, glasses won't fix
the problem -- only the ability to increase the font size, which is not
available in this program. I get the impression that Microsoft really
doesn't care. If you can't read the program the way it is, that's too bad,
or so I've been told by the tech support people.

Re: Making Inbox subject and post headers a larger font in window

I am using the same settings that you are, and I still can't read the list of
my emails or column headings. New glasses won't help my vision impairment.
Someone just needs to get with it and fix the program, but tech support has
indicated that they can't help me and they really don't care.

Re: Making Inbox subject and post headers a larger font in window

This suggestion was made to Spikey, not you. Spikey had written "In
mail I can just about cope with the size, but in windows live its
tiny, and thats with my glasses on.lol!! I also made it clear that
this was not a satisfactory solution, and ended it with a cheeky
wink. If you found this offensive, then I fear you have other
problems than poor eyesight.

During the beta testing stages of this app, there were very few of
us who drew attention to the accessibility drawbacks of the UI.

Re: Making Inbox subject and post headers a larger font in window

Ildhund offered you five different solutions, the last of which had a
winking smiley attached, meaning it was offered in half gist.
Why are you seizing upon that one solution? The philosophy of
exchange of solutions here is to accept what suits you and discard
the ones that don't suit you. There was no offense intended.
I am close to needing computer reading glasses myself.
