| | How to change Windows Live Mail association with Messenger, for email ?? Hello I use Outlook 2007 for email. I have Windows Live Mail installed, but I only use it occasionally, for newsgroups. I normally use Outlook Express for newsgroups. Clicking on new mail notifications for my Hotmail account, in Messenger, brings up Windows Live Mail, when I would prefer it to bring up Outlook, which is my default email client. How can I make email notifications from Messenger open in Outlook, rather than Windows Live Mail? Is the only way to actually uninstall Windows Live Mail? Is there any other way? Registry edit? Cheers ss. |

| | Re: How to change Windows Live Mail association with Messenger, for email ?? Greetings, I'm afraid for where these notifications take you when you're logged in with a Hotmail Live ID, you're stuck to either the Live Mail or the Hotmail website loading up in IE. To get the latter, you'd simply not sign in to Live Mail (you can still use the basic functionality without signing in) and then Messenger will ignore it. -- Jonathan Kay Microsoft MVP - Windows Live Messenger MSN Messenger/Windows Messenger MessengerGeek Blog: http://www.messengergeek.com Messenger Resources: http://messenger.jonathankay.com (c) 2008 Jonathan Kay - If redistributing, you must include this signature or citation -- "Synapse Syndrome" <synapse@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:ew#1Q$8CJHA.4884@xxxxxx Quote: > Hello > > I use Outlook 2007 for email. That would still be preferable to WLM, which takes ages to load, and I think it's also pretty rubbish. I just prefer Outlook Express and Outlook. ss. |

| | Re: How to change Windows Live Mail association with Messenger, for email ?? To stop WLM from signing on(automatically or prompting) with/for a Live ID when opening: WLM/Tools/Options/Connection/Stop signing on For Messenger(from the online Help available after opening Messenger) <qp> Sign in automatically and set your online status: Windows Live Messenger can sign you in automatically and set your status when you connect to the Internet. The sign-in automatically tool is useful on a private computer. However, if you use a public or shared computer, others can access your account if you select Remember my password. Set Messenger to sign you in automatically.: In the Messenger sign-in window, enter your e-mail address and password. Select the Remember me and the Remember my password check boxes. Select the Sign me in automatically check box to turn on automatic sign-in. Your selections take effect the next time you open Messenger. Tips To set your status, click the arrow button next to Sign in as, and then select the status you want Messenger to display when you sign in. To remove your sign-in information, clear the Remember Me and the Remember my Password check boxes. Note If you're using Windows Vista and have your Presentation Settings enabled, you won't be interrupted by notifications when your status is set to Busy. </qp> -- ...winston ms-mvp mail "Synapse Syndrome" <synapse@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:etgTdWADJHA.4036@xxxxxx Quote: > "Jonathan Kay [MVP]" <msnewsreplies@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:%23CnqXg9CJHA.4884@xxxxxx Quote: >> >> To get the latter, you'd simply not sign in to Live Mail (you can still use the basic functionality without signing in) and then >> Messenger will ignore it. > How do I sign out of WLM, but still keep signed into Messenger, Hotmail (and other Microsoft websites)? > > ss. > |

If I clicked the Inbox in Windows Live Messenger, Outlook 2007 was opened, just like it did in Windows Messenger. After this I tried and installed Windows Live mail. But now WLM was opened with WL Messenger and not Outlook. Then I removed Windows Live Mail again and Outlook was opened once again by clicking the Inbox in Windows Live Mesenger. -- Jan Kuipers |
