Vista - Automatically expand grouped messages not working

I can't get my W.L.M. news agent to automatically expand news group messages.
I've tried toggling the box on and off in
Tools/Options/Read/Automatically expand grouped messages
but I'm still left with all the headers on one side unexpanded. Can someone please
tell me where I'm going wrong?
