Re: Security Features In WLM & Spellchecker

OE6 didn't have a spell checker. It borrowed from another application's included spell checker(Office or Works Suite)

Re: Security Features In WLM & Spellchecker

We need the ability to switch from American English to Brit English
spellchecking and Canadian and Australian English spellchecking , as
was a piece of cake in OE6 with Office 2003 installed.

We also need spellchecking for both France and Canada versions of
French spelling, as was ALSO a piece of cake with OE6 and Office 2003.

Re: Security Features In WLM & Spellchecker

See the very numerous posts in this newsgroup on how to install Brit. spell
checking. Install it to a different folder (than/from/to) your Colonial
spell checking. Do the same for Oz, Canadian French and Continental French.
It is a pain to do it manually, but if you follow the directions you will
have all of them available, just like in Outlook Express.

Note that I have installed Portuguese of Brazil in mine, and another fellow
has Danish working. Sadly, no Attic or New Testament Greek or Latin as yet.
I do believe that Modern Greek is available. Any language available in
Office 2000/2002/2003 can be made to work with WLM.

This is a very good suggestion to send to feedback:

https://feedback.live.com/default.as...=wlmaildesktop

It is less useful to repost the same complaint over and over again to this
discussion group. By now everyone knows that spell check in WLM does not
work the same as in Outlook Express under XP.

Btw, people have noticed that Office 2007 spell checking only works in
French with OE and MSN. Quite by accident I have discovered that Italian
(Italy) works too! I installed the German Language Pack for Office 2007.
It includes Italian (Italy) as a "companion" language, as French and Spanish
are companion languages of Colonial English. But Italian from Office 2007
is also compatible with OE and MSN. Go figure.

Re: Security Features In WLM & Spellchecker

Yep...

But it needs to be BUILT IN to WLM as it WAS in OE + Office 2003.

We end users don't have time for kludge solutions.

The long-headed greybeards here should carry the message to the WLM
developers -- who should ALSO be reading this newsgroup or have staff
members doing so.

Re: Security Features In WLM & Spellchecker

But with OE if you upgraded your Office 2003 to Office 2007 it was no longer
"built in" - you in fact lost the English or any other language proofing and
were left with only French. But I agree that multi lingual proofing should
be easily available if not actually "built in".

Re: Security Features In WLM & Spellchecker

Yes, excellent point about Office 2007.

Were people TOLD BEFOREHAND they would lose the spellchecking
capabilities in OE if they upgraded to Office 2007?

In any case, I'm darned happy I DIDN'T upgrade to Office 2007.

We shouldn't have to jump through hoops to have multilingual
spellcheckers and multinational versions of English spellcheckers in
WLM.

Re: Security Features In WLM & Spellchecker

The Office 2007 media I bought at the college bookstore most definitely did
not display a message, "Warning, proofing tools do not work with Outlook
Express or MSN Premium", anywhere that I could see. Your question is of
course a rhetorical one.

It is no trouble installing another language in Outlook, but of course that
does not read news.

O.K. Hard Data are always useful. No, my question was not
rhetorical, but genuine.

Re: Security Features In WLM & Spellchecker

Let's see..WLM should have what OE didn't have when installing an application(Office 2007) that doesn't impact WLM's included spell
checker which as stated is more powerful and better than the one that OE didn't really have, therefore one should be happy not to
upgrade to Office 2007. <g>

Re: Security Features In WLM & Spellchecker

Well let's see. The spell checker that OE doesn't really have on my
XP/Office 2003 machine can spell check 54 languages including four varieties
of English. The one that WLM does really have can only spell check five
unless you tweak it. And as the OP has pointed out ad nauseam ad infinitum,
it has the fatal flaw of not handling British English spelling. I think
that's what we're really talking about here. Hopefully this serious
deficiency will be corrected in the next release.

I guess if your correspondence is in French or Italian, then upgrading to
Office 2007 wouldn't be so bad. {þ
