| | Replying to NG using WLMail? I have always read and replied to newsgroups using IE, but since I installed Live Mail, I thought I would give it a try. Using IE, I can log in and post but not display my real email address. Can this be done using Live Mail? I keeps asking for a display name and email address, and I don't want my real email address posted all over the newsgroups (to avoid spam). How do I set this up in WLMail? -- Regards, Paul B. aka "OldRebel" |

| | Re: Replying to NG using WLMail? Go to Tools/Accounts then select the NG account that you've entered and hit the Properties button. A window should appear and in there it lists your name and email address. These can be anything as they're not used for authentication. | | Re: Replying to NG using WLMail? Fear not Paul. As you can see from my e-mail address, it is totally bogus, and I am posting using Windows Live Mail, so just make one up that will not likely be anyone's real e-mail address. You can use the Display Name you have been using (OldRebel2) if you like. You just fill in the 'Name' and 'E-mail address' fields in the Properties dialog box for the News server account. i.e. Right-click 'Microsoft Communities' [News server account]->Properties->General [tab]->User Information [section]... -- Cheers, Peter (Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 with Windows Live Mail 12.0.1606) "There are more things in Heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy." - Shakespeare --------------- "OldRebel2" <OldRebel2@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:3728768F-1BB1-4C91-B339-0E89520AFDB8@xxxxxx Quote: > I have always read and replied to newsgroups using IE, but since I installed > Live Mail, I thought I would give it a try. How do I set > this up in WLMail? address, give it anything that has an "at" symbol, i.e., "@" in it. Best to use something which looks like an RFC 2822 email address. You can use '.invalid' as a TLD, in place of .com, .net., .org, etc., or you could use one of the reserved domains, such as 'example.net'. Don't invent a domain because you might accidentally choose one already registered. In my case, I have registered the domain in my email address. If you have a domain, you may use that, in conjunction with one, or another, DNS trick to invalidate the email address. If you already have the account set up, in the account Properties is a place where the email address is listed: Change it there. -- Norman ~Oh Lord, why have you come ~To Konnyu, with the Lion and the Drum |
