What happens when you try to shut down? How far does it get and at what
point does it appear to hang? On my computer the power key is configured to
shut down the computer, but Windows takes it over. If Windows hangs during
shut down, I press and hold the power key. Windows says, "Windows is
shutting down" and it does shut down. I suspect that this is a sort of
emergency shut down, hopefully not as destructive as turning off the power.
