Vista - some doubts about Windows Live wave 3

some doubts about Windows Live wave 3

1) The GUI isn't consistent at all throughout the entire suite:

in windows live messenger I can choose a black skin color that is really
black, in windows live mail I can choose color but they are only transparent,
so black isn't really black and in windows live photo gallery I can't choose
color at all.

2) Toolbar icons disappeared:

without icons commands are difficult to recognize and use, please give us
icons back soon.

3) Still no quick recognize of events and addresses:

It's so difficult to implement something like Apple Mail in wich addresses
and eventsin the mail text are recognized automatically and can be added or
saed with a simple mouse over?

4) Still old and unuseful stationery templates and limited photmail functions:

please give us a credible collection of stationery templates like the ones
in Apple Mail and more powerful photomail functions like that program, I
can't believe you really think I can make a mail with things such "bubbles",
"dinosaur" and so on...

5) I personally don't like the new commands interface in Windows Live
Photogallery:

I think that the previous Vista like interface was way more functional, now
I can't even launch a slideshow without moving cursor to the upside bar

6) And what about adding new ways of arrange photos and the ability to
choose background color for the visualization?

Just to don't give a wrong idea, I've also liked almost every innovation of
the suite, in particular Windows Live messenger. All the programs seems now
more quick to start up and fluid and I like the calendar integration in WLM
or the people recognition and the possibility to view friend's new photos,
but I think the functions above are really important and can contribute to a
better interaction with the products

Re: some doubts about Windows Live wave 3

Sonic, good feedback -- thanks.

Re #1, you'll see some further UI standardization as we get to the final
release.
Re #2, it's definitely a change to not have the icons, but give it a try.
I'd be interested to know if you've gotten used to it (or not) and like it
(or not) in another week.
Re #3-6, these are great feature suggestions. Noted.

Elsewhere in your products - e.g., Office, IE7, the trend has been towards
buttons and no menus. Now you seem to be going in the opposite direction!

Why can't we stick to the Outlook Express model of having icons only or
icons+ text? When WLM 1 was released a common complaint was that we couldn't
get rid of the text to allow more horizontal space. Instead you've done the
opposite and got rid of the icons!

As others have said it's easier to recognise a graphic than read text. For
example, under the old model I would start with icons + text. Once I'd
learnt what everything was I would then switch off the text.

Re: some doubts about Windows Live wave 3

Hi Stacia,

Quick question: What was the reason for having an all-text toolbar in WLM
Wave 3, and who was this tested on that decided (if any that) that it was
good idea? It's not a good idea, it's actually confusing.

How in the world can text be confusing? You apparently has an understanding
of the language since you posted in English. To me, Icons are a heck of a
lot more confusing than plain text.

Re: some doubts about Windows Live wave 3

Focus group studies have been done on this, which is why icons have
gotten more popular over the years.
Once you learn a specific icon, the human eye recognizes it much
quicker than reading a text label.

Re: some doubts about Windows Live wave 3

It is a matter of space for one, text uses more of it.
Icons are quickly recognized, no reading needed;-)
The chance to choose one or the other would be ideal IMO.
