Sending emails has stopped working

    Sending emails has stopped working

    Hi,
    Sending emails from Windows Live Mail has stopped working. This was working
    fine then just quit working one day. No known changes have taken place on
    PC.

    Symptoms:
    .. Get mail works fine
    .. Send mail results in "0x800CCC0F IXP_E_CONNECTION_DROPPED Connection
    closed" error - every time
    .. Tried another account on same PC - same problem
    .. Tried mail account on different PC on same home network (wired) - send
    works fine on the other Vista computer (with Live Mail too).
    .. Sending mail works from Mail on ISP's website
    .. Problem still exists with Window's Firewall off

    Configuration:
    .. Live Mail version 12.0.1606
    .. Windows Vista
    .. Wireless to home network
    .. ATT Yahoo mail server
    .. SMTP setting: secure SSL connection, port 465, server requires
    authentication (security required by ISP)

    Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

    Is your anti-virus set to scan e-mail?

    With some anti-virus (and anti-spam) programs, simply disabling the
    e-mail scanning function doesn't really disable it. It simply tells the
    program not to flag any messages. It still processes all the messages
    and may still cause send/receive problems. What you may need to do is
    uninstall the anti-virus program, then reinstall it using a custom
    install option and unselect the e-mail scanning component for
    installation.

    You may want to enable SMTP logging to get more information.

    To enable logging select Tools, Options, Advanced, Maintenance,
    Troubleshooting. Check the box to enable and click APPLY. Run the
    Send/Receive, then click the box uncheck and APPLY.

    POP3 enables both POP3 and SMTP logging.

    The logging information will be appended to WindowsLiveMail.log in the
    same location as the WLM Store Folder (click the STORE FOLDER button
    above Troubleshooting to see its location).

    The WindowsLiveMail.log grows indefinitely. You may want to rename (or
    delete) the current log file before starting logging in order to get a
    more manageable file size. WLM will automatically create a new log file
    when needed if one doesn't exist.

    That's not the complete error message. Please right-click on the
    error message, copy, then paste it into a reply here.
    We can't do much troubleshooting without that complete error message.

    I just tried to send myself an email through 'smtp.att.yahoo.com:465' w/SSL.
    I got an error. Not quite the same as yours:

    However, there is much more to my error than that line. I clicked in the
    message window which popped up with the error, and then did a right-click,
    copy. The entire message, pasted from my clipboard:

    Do you see the difference between the abbreviated error you posted (leaving
    us to do an Internet search on:

    And hope that we find something relevant?

    BTW, the problem in this case is that the 'n.xxxxxx@xxxxxx' email address
    is not associated with the account loging. Yahoo! Mail servers are tricky
    that way; your "Sender:" email address must either match your login ID, or
    be "verified" through a simple process. I should have used,
    'nxxxxxx@xxxxxx', which *is* associated with the login ID. After removing
    the period, the email was successfully sent:

    Anyway, I hope this illustrates the need to include the *entire* error
    message, not just some failure code. There may be a clue in the information
    you failed to provide. But it isn't a failure of WLM to connect with
    'smtp.att.yahoo.com'; my headers are from a test message making just that
    connection.

    I do not know how to statrt a question, so I am going to tag onto this one.
    My e-mail freezes every time I use it for more than a few functions. It will
    not close without rebooting. Boot takes longer than ever, 5-6 minutes. Any
    ideas? no upgrades available

    Bad form. You should learn how to use the tool. Also, did you know that you
    don't have to access these groups using a browser? Using a client, even
    Windows Live Mail, is much more convenient! Just click on the "Newsgroup"
    icon at the bottom of the Windows Live Mail window, then click on the "Add a
    newsgroup account". Use 'msnews.microsoft.com' as the server name; login name
    and password are not required for this server.

    Given that people tend to confuse Windows Live Hotmail, Windows Live Mail,
    and Windows Mail (thanks to Microsoft frequently changing the names of
    services and clients), you really need to specify what you are using.

    Windows Live Hotmail? Used to be called, "Windows Live Mail".
    Windows Live Mail? Used to be called, "Windwos Live Mail desktop".
    Windows Mail? The email client included in Windows Vista, and replaces MS
    Outlook Express, formerly included with Windows XP, and earlier.

    When you post back your question, best to start a new thread, and choose the
    correct group. There is a different group for each of:

    Windows Live Hotmail ('microsoft.public.msn.discussion').
    Windows Live Mail ('microsoft.public.windows.live.mail.desktop')
    Windows Mail ('microsoft.public.windows.vista.mail')

    Thanks for everyone's help so far. First, I tried to disable virus
    protection (MS OneCare) and that did not help. I haven't had time to
    uninstall and reinstall OneCare at this time but I'm not convinced this is
    the problem.

    My money is on OneCare being the culprit.
    It hasn't been a problem in the past, but the last few days there
    have been several reports of send failures from users running OneCare.
