| | weird newsgroup behavior Why do some messages I post not appear in this newsgroup? I was under the impression they were not posting at all, but that might not be the case. For example, I attempted to post a message this morning about the Beta Splash Screen. I created it and it appeared to post just fine. However, it never appeared in my message window. Now for the strange part. Even though it never appeared, .Chris replied to it and I can see his reply!! Can someone explain what is happening? I've re-posted several messages here and in the WLPG group. My fear is that someone is seeing every time I post. |

| | Re: weird newsgroup behavior I was about to ask you the same question, because I saw .Chris's reply but not your OP. It's there on the web, though. Try switching off those ridiculous Communities newsgroup support features at Options > General - that'll probably put things right. -- Noel "osu9400" <osu9400@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:A02E1AF4-B8C4-4750-B985-3960EC4BB98F@xxxxxx Quote: > Why do some messages I post not appear in this newsgroup? | | Re: weird newsgroup behavior I don't see your original post on the Beta splash screen either. I see that .Chris used the web interface for his reply. Did you use that also for that post or did you use WLM as you did for this post? The web interface and the NNTP news server do get out-of-synch sometimes. And so messages might be visible on one and not the other. -- Mike - http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/techhelp.htm "osu9400" <osu9400@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:A02E1AF4-B8C4-4750-B985-3960EC4BB98F@xxxxxx Quote: > Why do some messages I post not appear in this newsgroup? | | Re: weird newsgroup behavior The Communities feature is related to the web interface. It allows people to rate the usefulness of other people's posts and have your posts rated as well. There's a bug in the feature when used from NNTP that causes some posts to get lost. Microsoft has been working on this for a few months and has not quite nailed the problem down. -- Mike - http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/techhelp.htm "osu9400" <osu9400@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:ejhN5ybHJHA.3736@xxxxxx Quote: > It seems to be working now (assuming this message posts correctly). > > What is that feature for anyway and why is it blocking posts? > > > > "Ildhund" <jnllb@xxxxxx> wrote in message > news:#$fKPlVHJHA.3548@xxxxxx Quote: >> Did your problem go away after switching off the Communities feature? >> -- >> Noel >> >> "osu9400" <osu9400@xxxxxx> wrote in message >> news:uFT#yAQHJHA.944@xxxxxx Quote: >>> >>> >>> "osu9400" <osu9400@xxxxxx> wrote in message >>> news:C4A77AD4-C53C-477A-A74A-83F813AB3CBD@xxxxxx >>>> I only use WLM for my NNTP posting. >>>> >>>> >>>> "Michael Santovec" <michael_santovec@xxxxxx> wrote in message >>>> news:eKET9aOHJHA.1940@xxxxxx >>>>> I don't see your original post on the Beta splash screen either. >>>>> >>>>> I see that .Chris used the web interface for his reply. | | Re: weird newsgroup behavior Read all about it at http://www.microsoft.com/library/gal...oINeedToSignIn It only blocks posts when it's not working properly, which seems to be quite often. If you look at the message IDs below, you will see that messages posted with the feature enabled take the form {GUID}@microsoft.com. Plain NNTP postings have IDs with a domain in the form TKxMSFTNGPxx.phx.gbl. -- Noel "osu9400" <osu9400@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:ejhN5ybHJHA.3736@xxxxxx Quote: > It seems to be working now (assuming this message posts > correctly). > > What is that feature for anyway and why is it blocking posts? | | Re: weird newsgroup behavior Which reminds me: Newsgroup messages posted via WLMail with the Communities feature enabled, and messages posted via the web interface, both hide the IP address of the sender. This is a big handicap when attempting to help some newbie who doesn't know the name of their ISP. I can use the IP address to find their ISP.
