Re: Update only Windows live mail

I've been using WMLd for quite a long time. Today I updated it with the Beta
version 0908. Unluckyly I could no more start the WMLd. An alert shew "Your
calendar contains corrupt data that is forcing WMLd to close. 0x8000FFFF."
How can I do?

Re: Update only Windows live mail

Try renaming the Calendar folder, which will force WLMail to recreate it.

In Vista: C:\Users\<USER_NAME>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail\Calendars

In XP: C:\Documents and Settings\<USER_NAME>\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail\Calendars

Re: Update only Windows live mail

Thank Gary, but it does not work.

I tried to uninstall the WLMd then to delete all the files in the \Program
Files\Windows Live\Mail and those in \Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail\

After that, I rebooted the laptop and reinstall the WLMd. It still did not
work.

So I restored the whole windows system to an earlier clean backup, installed
the WLMd again.

It worked finally.

Re: Update only Windows live mail

Sounds like your program corruption extended to more than just Calendar.

Re: Update only Windows live mail

I did the software update earlier today, came back to the pc later today and
messenger (v9 - hate it) has completely disappeared.

So I reinstalled it and now all it comes up with 0x8000ffff Catoastrophic
failure.

Im no techie so all the stuff about WMLD means nothing to me.

Can anyone help ?

Re: Update only Windows live mail

Boot Safe Mode, try System Restore. If Windows actually boots, just remove
Messenger. It is not required for WLM. It's called WLM. WMLD sounds like
something that Saddam might have had.

Re: Update only Windows live mail

What software update ?
Neither WLM or WLM beta are updates, both are full installation email clients.

Re: Update only Windows live mail

Got everything working now. Just out of curiosity though, when a new version
of WLM Beta or a full release comes out, will this be handled through
Windows Update (transparent to the the user) or does it have to be manually
installed? If the later, will this forum be the place where notifications
will be given?

Thanks - Oppie

Re: Update only Windows live mail

Oppie,
Glad to hear it..thanks for reporting your success.

While possible for some applications to install final release on top of beta software, it is highly suggested to:

- remove any beta software(Add-Remove[XP]or Programs and Features[Vista]) prior to installing any full release production
version(backup and data, important messages as insurance)

- restore an earlier image(pre beta install) - my preference
