You can install any operating system that you like on any computer which has
support for the OS features. You can usually install Windows XP on a
computer which originally came with Windows Vista. But you need the install
discs for the OS; and, in the case of Windows, a valid product key for
activation.

I would like to offer a somewhat different opinion in that, especially in the
case of notebooks, if the manufacturer only sold that model with Vista,
then hardware drivers for XP may not be available.

Re: Vista

I had installed a software on astrology which was working in windows 98. After installing Vista, I am unable to use this software. I tried all means by going to the program and install with old features. But, it never worked. I feel that this software is much useful and if can not be used in vista may need to revert back to win 98. Can you tell me a way to install this software in vista.

Re: Vista

Have you contacted the manufacturer to see if maybe they have a patch that will make it work with Vista? That would be the first step.
