WLInstaller.exe does not install anything on my PC. It runs, I deselect the
three ticks, it says it will install something and then the internet
explorer opens at the Windows Live Hotmail site with no desktop. What am I
doing wrong?

Nothing. I spent the better part of a day using that 2400k installer
trying to get the desktop app onto my XP notebook and it would only
put me onto the web interface. No desktop.

I came to this group using Google Groups, ran a few searches of the
group and finally came upon this (how to remove previous/beta
versions):

Remove all traces of previous installs from your system using either
Add and Remove Programs or Programs and Features and follow the
instructions in the blog.

Then install the downloaded install file

That worked for ME.
