Feature Request: Cross-post filtering

    Feature Request: Cross-post filtering

I think a nice feature would be the ability to filter on cross-post on a
per-group basis. With some groups, if you limit the cross-posting to zero
than almost all of the spam and off-topic threads disappear. Other groups
can have, say, three cross-posts allowed as the groups tend to have similar
    themes.

    Does anyone else want this?

I'd prefer a variant of this; allow deleting anything crossposted to certain
newsgroups, such as sci.med.cardiology, but allow crossposting to groups
of related newsgroups, such all of the diabetes newsgroups. I wouldn't
mind also having the ability to delete anything crossposted to four
newsgroups I don't subscribe to, as well as one newsgroup I subscribe to,
since I've seen a number of spammers and trolls make such posts.

I'd also like a feature allowing the deleting of anything posted through
Google Groups, but originating from a specific IP address, as a number
of spammers do; Google Groups is rather slow about responding to
    complaints about such spammers.

And, of course, repair whatever causes the problems that show up after
    deleting newsgroups.

The inability to filter by IP address has existed since MS Outlook Express.
I don't think Microsoft will ever add that capability. Too many other bells
    and whistles to work on.

That's all geek stuff and something that will NEVER be used by the
unwashed masses. It's unlikely you'll ever see anything close to any
    of it.

It might be easier to provide the capability of filtering out everything
posted through Google Groups, or some capability of specifying a
header line and searching it for specified text. Since most of the spam
I see is posted through Google Groups, which is very slow at shutting
down spammers, I'd be willing to help the newsgroups I participate in
learn how to filter it out.

Another feature that would help filter out some spammers is the
ability to specify a string of text, such as part of a URL or the name
of something advertised by spammers, and delete all newsgroup
posts that contain that string in the body.

I think I'll make it easier on the both of us by filtering this thread
out. Have at it, since beating your head against the wall seems to
    make you happy.

In the first place, MS Outlook Express is no longer under development.
Hasn't been for a couple of years, so there will be no new features added.
    Ever.

The same is true for Windows Mail (which I see you are using for posting).
No longer under development; no new features will be added. Ever.

As for Windows Live Mail; if MSFT were ever going to add such features, they
would have been added in the second beta release (14.0.5027). If they aren't
there now, they won't likely be added. Ever.

Your best bet is to give up on MSFT. They are not going to build a full
featured mail and news client for free. Look for the better alternatives
    from other publishers.

    That may be...

    Bottom-Line Truth...

    Harsh As It Is.

What do you recommend as a full-featured mail and news client in lieu
    of WLM?

I'm sick and tired of trying to make this Broken-Beta WLM work....

And I'm a Microsoft stockholder -- I WANT them to succeed.

But they have really screwed the pooch on this one -- and will have to
    learn to do better.

    Discipline of the Market.

Microsoft seems to have taken a nose-dive since Bill Gates left the
    helm.

The harsh and ironic truth is that this reply to a request for
cross-post filtering came from a troll who cross-posts most of
his off-topic messages (several thousand a month) to the
    following totally unrelated groups:

    alt.history.british
    alt.war.vietnam
    sci.military.naval
    soc.history.medieval
    us.military.army

The most recent example was about Greenspan's admission that he
was wrong. Off-topic in all of the above groups.

News flash: the entire stock market has taken a beating in that same
    time span.

I hardly think that Bill Gates is at fault for that.
