Hi: Have been unable to send or receive email from my domain (referred to
"mydomainname.com" below without receiving error message which listed below.
I use WLM
and MS Vista. I have tried changing SSl, ports and various options & still
no good.
I use Nortons NAV 2008 and turned off auto protect and still no good. Have
called my web hosting & they could not assist with WLM problem. Any
suggestions? Many thanks. JL.

Re: 0X800CCC0B - Get "invalid password" error????

You have quoted the server details as "mail.mydomainname.com". I
presume you have disguised the server name.

It seems that you are using a hosting service for your own domain name.
Which hosting service are you using?

It is difficult to advise, with incomplete information. We do not
require your email address OR password. However, please quote the
remainder of the error message (including the full name of the mail
server OR alternatively, the name of the hosting service).

Please also provide the name of the ISP that you are using, when you
connect to the Internet.

Re: 0X800CCC0B - Get "invalid password" error????

The Invalid password error message can mean that any of the following
are wrong:
- POP3 server name
- Incoming Mail Server E-mail User Name (some require the full e-mail
address user@xxxxxx, others just want the user part)
- Incoming Mail Server Password (often case sensitive)
- Incorrect use of Secure Password Authentication (SPA) or APOP - few
severs use this
- Incorrect use of SSL - few servers use this, but it's becoming more
common
- The mail server is having temporary problems
- Anti-Virus scanning e-mail or anti-spam program interfering with the
mail server logon
Check these settings in Windows Live Mail at Tools, Accounts, Mail,
Properties, Servers (Advanced tab for SSL). Check with your mail
service (generally your ISP) for the correct values. If the values seem
correct, retype them and click APPLY.

Re: 0X800CCC0B - Get "invalid password" error????

Your WLM settings look fine. The mail server is valid and
responds to my connection attempt. There is a possibility
that the account is corrupted, so create another mail account
with the same settings. You can delete it (or the original account)
later on. Remember that in WLM when you delete an account,
it deletes all email in the account folders.

If no improvement, do a trial uninstall of your antivirus.

Re: 0X800CCC0B - Get "invalid password" error????

A little detective work (ping "mail.jlatiff.com, followed by an
attempted telnet connection to "mail.jlahiff.com 25") indicates that
your mail server is hosted at www.midphase.com.

In addition to the advice from Gary VanderMolen, have a look at the help
page at
http://www.midphasehelp.com/support/...questionid=566.

Although this help page provides recommended settings for Outlook
Express, the basic details (address of the mail servers and port numbers
apply equally to WLMail).

Interestingly, the help page tells you to enter the server address as
mail.jlatiff.ext. However, that does not appear to be a valid address,
so you should continue to use mail.jlatiff.com. By default, the Port
numbers in WLMail will be 25 for outgoing messages (the SMTP server) and
100 for incoming messages (the POP3 server).

You could try changing the Port number for outgoing messages from 25 to
2625, just in case your ISP (verizon.net) blocks connection via Port 25.

One other aspect is to check that you have entered your account name and
password correctly. According to the help page, you should enter your
FULL email address as the account name. Your account name and password
are case sensitive.

Re: 0X800CCC0B - Get "invalid password" error????

Hi have tried most if not all the suggestions except for uninstalling the
antivirus software which I will do soon. Have sent & received an email for
for the account email for my domain name on OE6 on a Windows XP (SP3) and
okay. One concern is that when setting up a mail rule for the domain account
I cannot find the account name mail box for "Move it to the "specified"
e-mail folder and 5 of 8 rules for other email accounts have a (red) X out
as compared to a blue check for okay rules? Wonder if WLM is set up properly
since I did have problems creating WLM from OE6. Thanks to everyone for
their assistance. While searching the web for info on error 0x800CCC90 many
of the results were from the 3 gentlemen assisting on this problem.

Re: 0X800CCC0B - Get "invalid password" error????

If the account is working OK in OE6 but the same account is not working
in WLM, one option is to record a POP3 log on each system and then
compare. It might show a difference that could be the cause of the
problem.

To create an POP3.log In OE5+, go to Tools, Options, Maintenance,
Troubleshooting and check the Mail box.
You may need to close OE after doing the send/receive for the log to get
written to disk.
The log will be in the Store Folder which is listed in Tools, Options,
Maintenance, Store Folder.

To enable logging in Windows Live Mail select Tools, Options, Advanced,
Maintenance, Troubleshooting. Check the box to enable and click APPLY.
Run the Send/Receive, then click the box to uncheck and APPLY.

POP3 enables both POP3 and SMTP logging.

The logging information will be appended to WindowsLiveMail.log in the
same location as the WLM Store Folder (click the STORE FOLDER button
above Troubleshooting to see its location).

The WindowsLiveMail.log can grow to be very large. You may want to
rename (or delete) the current log file before starting logging in order
to get a more manageable file size. WLM will automatically create a new
log file when needed if one doesn't exist.

As for the messages rules, where they imported OE6? If so, the errors
in the rules can mean that the corresponding folders don't exist, or
didn't exist when the rules where imported. Assuming the folders now
existing, you should be able to modify the rules to select the correct
destination folder.

Re: 0X800CCC0B - Get "invalid password" error????

Hi: I uninstalled and reinstalled Norton NAV 2008 and in between emailed to
JLahiff.com .... and same error message. I created a pop3 log on both OE6
mail ( using XP) on another pc. On WLM (on VISTA) the pop3 log containing
"[16:53:46.51] Contacts_Storage:
CContactStorage::BindToPool@xxxxxx: BindToPool for real, sot: 8 finished
with hr=0x0 " and continuing lines of almost the same data. On OE6, in which
the email worked perfectly the pop3 log contained "User ??????@jlahiff.com",
......"+Ok Password required", ..... "Password ***********", ......"+Ok
logged in". Any suggestions about this. I suspect that since I created WLM
importing Windows Live and OE6 that WLM may not be set up correctly? As
usual many thanks for everyone's interest and professional advice. All
suggestions and advice appreciated. Ole Man

Re: 0X800CCC0B - Get "invalid password" error????

It's hard to tell from your summary what you found in the WLM log.

Are you Not seeing the User and Password commands in the WLM log?

If not, in WLM at Tools, Accounts, Mail, Properties,, Servers, you want
logon use clear text (NOT Secure Password Authentication and not APOP).
