| | Default mail client hijacked by windows search I installed a beta version of WLM which came with a download for Windows Search (can't find any version information on this). Works very nicely with one exception, it seems to hijack my default mail client from Lotus Notes to Outlook 2002. This is when I attempt to send a file by right clicking on it and Send To... mail recipient. Going to control panel and explicitly setting mail client to Lotus Notes and then re-booting gets me back to Lotus Notes but as soon as I use Windows search again, it goes back to Outlook 2002. This is a business use and the 'official' mail client is Lotus Notes. WLM Version 2008 (build 14.0.5027.0908) XP Pro, SP3 |

Cute. Apparently because it's part of the OS it doesn't bother with its own Help About. Try using file version to distinguish then. FWIW I think that I am using WS4.0 and this is what filever shows about its modules: <cmd_output OS="XPsp3"> F:\WINDOWS\system32>filever *search* f:\windows\system32\searchfilterhost.exe ----- W32i APP ENU 7.0.6001.380 shp 87,552 03-25-2008 searchfilterhost.exe f:\windows\system32\searchindexer.exe ----- W32i APP ENU 7.0.6001.380 shp 440,320 03-25-2008 searchindexer.exe f:\windows\system32\searchindexer.exe.mui ----- W32i APP ENU 7.0.6001.380 shp 8,192 03-25-2008 searchindexer.exe.mui f:\windows\system32\searchprotocolhost.exe ----- W32i APP ENU 7.0.6001.380 shp 184,832 03-25-2008 searchprotocolhost.exe </cmd_output> Quote: > > Works very nicely with one exception, it seems to hijack my default mail > client from Lotus Notes to Outlook 2002. There isn't a newsgroup for the latter but there is a web forum--MSFT personnel even post there... http://forums.microsoft.com/msdn/Sho...D=847&SiteID=1 (via Live Search for "windows search" outlook default (MSFT OR MVP) forums -communities site:microsoft.com ) It looks as if most of the errors reported with Outlook there were associated with the earlier version of WS. Hmm... looks as if others had a related symptom with WS 4.0 Preview http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/Sho...81607&SiteID=1 HTH Robert Aldwinckle --- Quote: > Going to control panel and explicitly setting mail client to Lotus Notes and > then re-booting gets me back to Lotus Notes but as soon as I use Windows > search again, it goes back to Outlook 2002. > > This is a business use and the 'official' mail client is Lotus Notes. > > > WLM Version 2008 (build 14.0.5027.0908) > XP Pro, SP3 > > |

No, this isn't realy about WLM but since the WS came with the beta download of WLM, this did seem the appropriate forum.
