Using Windows Live Mail to send/receive Hotmail emails

I have just downloaded the Windows Live mail software and have added my ISP
email account to it. When adding a new account to WLM, it shows an example
email address which is a Hotmail address, and also asks if I would like to
open a new Hotmail email address.

I was therefore, thinking it would be possible to us Hotmail in WLM, but I
can't seem to do it.

Can anyone help? After having reading down a couple messages on this
newsgroup it looks like I can't use Hotmail in WLM? I'm confuesed!

Re: Using Windows Live Mail to send/receive Hotmail emails

Which version of the program did you download? There are two, the
current v12 and a beta v14. Help menu > About.. will tell you.
It would not be wrong to say that WLMail was primarily designed to
be used with Hotmail, so it's difficult to tell what you're doing
wrong. If you already have a Hotmail address, just use the 'Add a
new e-mail account' wizard to set it up - all you need is the
address and your password. If you don't, then click 'Get a free
e-mail account' and set one up.

Re: Using Windows Live Mail to send/receive Hotmail emails

WLM is capable of setting up and accessing Hotmail accounts(hotmail.com or live.com)

Create a Live ID
https://signup.live.com/signup.aspx
- select the option to Create a Windows Live e-mail address
- you have the option to choose one with a hotmail.com or live.com address(if the username is aldready in use, choose another
using the check availability option)
Enter all the required information(a good password[write it down], an alternate email address, and a secret question/answer,
etc(the rest of the form)

Once complete, if it does not redirect you to the Hotmail web interface and a logon prompt, do so manually by using mail.live.com
to logon. Once complete, close your browser, open WLM and setup the account using that same Live ID(username/pw) in WLM. It will
setup the account and offer to synchronize..let it do so. Test it by sending yourself a message from that and another account. Test
the option to receive mail too.

Good Luck.

Re: Using Windows Live Mail to send/receive Hotmail emails

Thanks to both of you for your help.

I now think that the problem is with my hotmail account. I tried to log in
this morning and it said that either my address or password is incorrect.
So I clicked the link for 'forgot password', but after filling in the
information, I'm told the username in incorrect. I'm 100% sure its the
address I chose yesterday, and if I try to register it again, Hotmail says
its unavailable. However, this is probably for a different newsgroup now!

Re: Using Windows Live Mail to send/receive Hotmail emails

A previously used address normally can not be reused. Some addresses previously used, that are cancelled, may be available after a
prolonged period post cancellation(e.g. 365 days).

If this is a new free account with no activity going forwarded it will marked as inactive in 120 days, and deleted 90 days later.
It will remain unavailable for use until 365 days have passed.

It might be easier to create a new Live ID Hotmail account at signup.live.com
https://signup.live.com/signup.aspx?...ollrs=12&lic=1
Fill in all fields properly, verify the content and write all info down on a separate piece of paper and verify prior to pressing
the 'I accept' button.
