Emails not sent

Until two days ago everything was fine.

Found out that my e-mails aren't reaching their destinations, though it
appears from my end that they are sent. I get no error message at any time
and they leave the outbox. I use smtp.comcast.net and Windows Live Mail with
Vista Home. Two other accounts on Windows Live Mail (both @live.com
accounts) work fine as do the other computers in the house. It also works
when I send using my Scout Troop's Troopmaster software. I've tried the
Port 587 things I've read about as well as deleting the account and redoing
it. Also, Windows Mail works fine.

Re: Emails not sent

If the messages move to the Sent Items folder, then as far as Windows
Live Mail (WLM) knows, the messages have been successfully received by
your SMTP mail server. The only potential problem with this is if your
anti-virus is scanning outgoing e-mail, it presents itself to WLM as the
SMTP mail server and may tell WLM that the message has been received
when the anti-virus has not yet sent it to the real SMTP mail server.

With some anti-virus (and anti-spam) programs, simply disabling the
e-mail scanning function doesn't really disable it. It simply tells the
program not to flag any messages. It still processes all the messages
and may still cause send/receive failures. What you may need to do is
uninstall the anti-virus program, then reinstall it using a custom
install option and unselect the e-mail scanning component for
installation.

If that's not the case, then somewhere later, the message is being
filtered out as spam. If you send a message to yourself from/to the
Comcast account in WLM, do you get back?

Re: Emails not sent

Michael,

Thanks for the response. I've sent multiple tests and they won't even
arrive at the same account that sends them. I'm running McAfee and it doesnt
appear to have an outgoing email scanning feature to turn on or off.
Nevertheless, I'm going to uninstall it and see if that helps.

In the Properties of your e-mail account
on the Server tab...do you have: My Server

Re: Emails not sent

If you uninstall McAfee, also run their cleanup tool afterwards because
McAfee doesn't uninstall cleanly:

If you decide to replace McAfee, we can recommend a free antivirus
program which is more benign.

Re: Emails not sent

Yes and I changed the port to 587 per the Comcast service chat.

Last night I uninstalled Windows Live Mail and concluded that I'd have to
use Windows Mail again (doesn't support HTTP, grr). Right before bed I sent
myself an e-mail through WM and it came through fine. Remembered I needed to
send another e-mail a bit later and sent that one, copying myself (just in
case). However, I realized this morning that I never received the copy.
Tested again and now WM doesn't send e-mails either.

I had downloaded Mozilla Thunderbird as a backup solution and just tested
it. MT appears to work ok this morning. Not sure how long that will last
*puzzled*.

BTW I did uninstall McAfee and eventually reinstalled it, but the above
happened after I did so.

I'm at wits end, help is very much appreciated.
