| | Vista - Quick views (All news) = 100% CPU for about 15 minutes |

| | Quick views (All news) = 100% CPU for about 15 minutes Upon upgrading to the December beta refresh and clicking into the newsgroups section, I was puzzled to see "All news" Quick view incrementing steadily with no way to stop it that I could find, all the while taking 100% of the CPU. That's not a very nice user experience upon opening the program. Why wouldn't it happen when it senses low user activity, like, say, Windows indexing does? And how on earth do you stop it once it gets going? |

| | Re: Quick views (All news) = 100% CPU for about 15 minutes This is one of the reasons why I use Windows Mail (instead of WLM) for newsgroups. I have no use for the "All news" Quick view, but there is no way to deselect it as a Quick view. -- Gary VanderMolen, MS-MVP (Mail) "Milhouse Van Houten" <btvs@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:OWcAe1YYJHA.6000@xxxxxx Quote: > Upon upgrading to the December beta refresh and clicking into the newsgroups section, I was puzzled to see "All news" Quick view > incrementing steadily with no way to stop it that I could find, all the while taking 100% of the CPU. What's it good for? <eg> FWIW I don't have Quick views at all. My only complaint is that the so-called compact folder pane can't be eliminated entirely. The closest I have found to be able to do this is to have my WLMail application window always open with that edge of the window hidden. Doing that exposes more of the From column underneath my open message windows (or alternatively, a wider Reading pane than would otherwise be possible.) | | Re: Quick views (All news) = 100% CPU for about 15 minutes I only use the "All sent items" and "All junk e-mail" in Quick views. I also have "Unread e-mail" but I seldom open it. I use its blue tally count to make sure I have read all newly arrived emails. "All sent items" is useful for quickly rechecking a recently sent message. "All junk e-mail" is quite useful for a quick review of suspected spam before deleting it. I don't see any point in separating spam by account. -- Gary VanderMolen, MS-MVP (Mail) "Robert Aldwinckle" <robald@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:uLd6gjhYJHA.3808@xxxxxx Quote: > > > "Gary VanderMolen" <Gary@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:ejZYQGZYJHA.2280@xxxxxx Quote: >> This is one of the reasons why I use Windows Mail (instead of WLM) >> for newsgroups. I'm too used to just doing Ctrl-Shift-F Alt-B ... Alt-c, F4 Enter. WLMail makes this harder than it needs to be (e.g. harder than OE makes it) because we can't navigate in the Alt-B dialog by keystroke in which case all I would need to do is type S. I using WLMail for news only so I don't get any E-mail ("junk" or otherwise.) ; ) Robert --- Quote: > > -- > Gary VanderMolen, MS-MVP (Mail) > > > "Robert Aldwinckle" <robald@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:uLd6gjhYJHA.3808@xxxxxx Quote: >> >> >> "Gary VanderMolen" <Gary@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:ejZYQGZYJHA.2280@xxxxxx Quote: >>> This is one of the reasons why I use Windows Mail (instead of WLM) >>> for newsgroups.
