| | Hyperlinks not underlined and not clickable I've just started trial use of Windows Live Mail before converting my mail system from OE. The first thing I noticed was that a hyperlink I included in an HTML message did not get underlined and was not clickable. This was true however I viewed it, including the copy I sent to myself. But if I click Reply or Forward on that copy, it is then underlined, and when received is also clickable. Why isn't the original link underlined and clickable? I can't see any option that affects this, and anyway I thought the default behaviour was to underline it. -- Richard J. (to email me, swap 'uk' and 'yon' in address) |

| | Re: Hyperlinks not underlined and not clickable It is normal that the link Not to be highlight and Not clickable while composing the message. This is a bit different from OE. In OE while composing the links are highlighted but are still not clickable. In either case, after sending the message, the copy in the Sent Items folder and any received version should be clickable. Note the if you look at the message while still in the Outbox, it is still in a being composed mode and so not clickable. -- Mike - http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/techhelp.htm "Richard J." <rjnews0811@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:eesB35jYJHA.2084@xxxxxx Quote: > I've just started trial use of Windows Live Mail before converting my > mail system from OE. Just because you see the text for a "link" in an HTML document does not mean that it is a usable link. View the source of the document to see the exact coding you are getting. E.g. press Ctrl-F3 or Ctrl-F2. --- |

| | Re: Hyperlinks not underlined and not clickable Further tests show that the problem occurs when I send a mail from WLM with format set to "Rich Text (HTML)". When received by WLM, the links in the mail are not clickable (in neither the preview pane nor in a separate window). When the same mail is received by OE they *are* clickable. When the same mail is sent from OE, the links are clickable whether read in OE or WLM. I've tried this with links of the form www.domain.net and also http://domain.net with the same results in both cases. -- Richard J. | | Re: Hyperlinks not underlined and not clickable Yes, with the following results: OE composing: When composing in HTML format, OE recognises http://.... or www.... and creates the HTML <a href=" ... etc. around it. OE reading: When a "naked" link is received, whether in a plain-text mail or in HTML without the <a> tags, it displays it as a link (blue, underlined) and makes it clickable. WLM composing: When composing in HTML format, it doesn't do anything special with a link that you type, so it gets included in the message as a "naked" link. WLM reading: When a "naked" link is received in a plain-text mail, WLM recognises it as a link, displays it blue and underlined, and makes it clickable. When a "naked" link is received in an HTML mail, it is displayed as ordinary text. Is this WLM behaviour experienced by other people? Is this a deliberate change in WLM, a bug in WLM, or is there a setting that I can change to persuade WLM to act more intelligently? By the way, the encoding for all the test messages in WLM is Western European (Windows). I've tried other encoding settings without seeing any difference in behaviour. -- Richard J. | | Re: Hyperlinks not underlined and not clickable Rather depends on what you mean by 'stable' - my WLMail, same version as yours, has been rock solid for over a year. It has its bugs, which I've learnt to live with until they're eradicated, but the app is as stable as any I have installed and more stable than most. To check whether a link works or not, I always do a quick Ctrl-S to save a draft. This calls the HTML rendering engine into play, and with the 'All drafts' Quick view visible, all it takes is a click or two there to open the draft I just saved.
