Workaround to Edit HTML Source in Windows Live Mail

Several participants have lamented the disappearance of the Edit, Source and Preview tabs when moving from Windows Mail to Windows Live Mail.

If you still have Windows Mail installed along with Windows Live Mail, here's a quick and dirty way of doing it:

1. In Windows Mail (the older program):

Using Tools|Accounts|,
  • Select each account and click Properties
  • On the General Tab, deselect Include this account when receiving mail or synchronizing. This will prevent Windows Mail from downloading you email automatically.
2. Create your email in Windows Mail (the old program) just as you did in the past using the Source tab. Frequently, I'll actually create the email in Dreamweaver and copy and paste the HTML into Windows Mail.

3. When you're satisfied with it, email it from Windows Mail (the old program) to yourself.

4. Open the email in Windows Live Mail (the new program) and select Forward.

5. Remove the forward information and you now have your email formatted and ready to send.
