Vista - can't open email attachments

When I try to open an arch all of a sudden I get " file may be in use by another application, the file format may not be supported by any installed conveters, or the file may be corrupt." I have tried to open old files also and get the same thing no matter what or nothing at all. Any ideas? this is for DOC, jpg and Word. This just started. have HP with Vista 32 microsoft office 2007

You mention a problem with old files. Is this files that are still
attachments in e-mail messages, or files that were previously saved to
a Windows folder?

If files that are still attachments, try saving them (File, Save
Attachments) and then try opening the saved attachments.

If the problem is still with saved attachments, then it's not likely an
issue with Windows Live Mail.

Do you have Norton Anti-virus installed? If so, there is a known
problem with its Office plug-in. Norton has an update for this.
