It's best accessed via the MS news server at news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsof...e.mail.desktop If you have more than one English spelling option, 'the last release' must be the latest beta version 14 with a build number greater than 908. The OS is Windows XP Profesional Version 2002 SP3 in Spanish. The AV is Avast Build Dec2008 (4.8.1296) As for anti-spyware that must be Windows Defender version 1.1.1593.0 with the definition version 1.49.701.0 I hope this helps. | | Re: Windows Live Mail spelling dictionaries Darn! I forgot the follow up. Never mind. I'll bet the problem is some conflict in language versions. The copy of WLMail that you have is indeed a beta (and it's naughty of MS to release it without saying so) , so you can expect it to have more than its fair share of bugs. You should open a support ticket, because this is the sort of thing the development team need to know about. Go to https://account.live.com/helpcentral.aspx, sign in with your Live ID and select "Windows Live Mail beta" from the dropdown. Click any item in the FAQ list. In the lower right-hand corner, find and click on the option to 'Get More Help,' then click on 'Get Support'. You should get a form to fill in. You have an English language beta version of WLMail installed on a Spanish OS. It's probably not difficult to get the spell checkers for other languages installed, but it's undoubtedly fiddly, because they're all buried several levels deep in your user profile. See what Support say first; if you get no joy there, post back and we'll go through a few steps to fix you up. -- Noel "Jackie" <jackie@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:ubkyor7YJHA.5772@xxxxxx Quote: > Windows Live Mail Version 2009 (Build 14.0.8050.1202) --It does > not say the word 'beta' nowhere in the about window. > > The OS is Windows XP Profesional Version 2002 SP3 in Spanish. > > The AV is Avast Build Dec2008 (4.8.1296) > > As for anti-spyware that must be Windows Defender version > 1.1.1593.0 with the definition version 1.49.701.0 > > I hope this helps. > > "Ildhund" <jnllb@xxxxxx> wrote in message > news:utZ6Qg7YJHA.6036@xxxxxx Quote: >> You should really ask this in the dedicated newsgroup, which I've >> cross-posted to. | | Re: Windows Live Mail spelling dictionaries I am using Windows XP SP3 (English-UK), with the last stable release of WLMail (Version 2008, Build 12.0.1606). Do you have Microsoft Office, Microsoft Works or Microsoft Word on your computer? (The Office 2003 or earlier is fine, but not Office 2007 or Word 2007). If so, it is not particularly difficult to add a Spanish spellchecker to WLMail, Build 12.0.1606. However, I don't know whether the following instructions also apply to any of the later beta versions of WLMail(Build 14.xxx). 1. Open Control Panel and click on "Folder Options". Select the "View" tab and check the "Show Hidden Files and Folders" option. 2. Then, search your hard drive for two files named Mssp3es.lex and Mssp3es.dll. 3. If you find these files, create the following new folder on your hard drive: "C:\Documents and Settings\[Your User Name]\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail\Proof\prf000A\1" 4. Then, copy the Mssp3es.lex and Mssp3es.dll files to the folder you have just created. 5. Open Notepad and create the following text file: [Spellchecker] Engine=MSSP3ES.DLL Lex=MSSP3ES.LEX Lang=3082 Use the "save as" command to save the text file to the "prf000A\1" folder with the name "spell.txt". Then, rename the file as "spell.ini". 6. If desired, you can revert to the default folder options. Re-open Control Panel and click on "Folder Options". Select the "View" tab and check the "Hide Hidden Files and Folders" option. | | Re: Windows Live Mail spelling dictionaries Does that mean you opened a support ticket and got no reply? They're usually very good about getting back within a day or two, but I suppose Christmas will extend the response time. It would be interesting to hear what they say. In the meantime, you could install the languages you want manually. I see Bob Lucas has put you on the right track. You can download the files needed if you don't have them: Spanish: http://download.microsoft.com/downlo.../spl_eses7.cab French: http://download.microsoft.com/downlo...8/spl_frfr.cab The folder for the Spanish files should be prf000A/7, and for the French ones prf000C/1. Just extract the contents of the CAB files to those locations and you should be good to go. If you want other flavours than Castilian and French, you could try changing the lang= line in the appropriate spell.ini to give the language ID for the flavour you want. You can look up the right LCID at http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/0h88fahh.aspx Canadian French would be lang=3084, for example. I haven't tried this myself in the beta version 14, so no guarantees that it will work. -- Noel "Jackie" <jackie@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:O57dT95ZJHA.1328@xxxxxx Quote: > I had no luck contacting them. > > "Ildhund" <jnllb@xxxxxx> wrote in message > news:OW7gN98YJHA.652@xxxxxx Quote: >> Darn! | | Re: Windows Live Mail spelling dictionaries There is no "C:\Documents and Settings\[My User Name]\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail\Proof\". On the other hand, I found such folder on "C:\Archivos de programa\Windows Live\Mail\Proof" (Archivos de programa = Program Files). I downloaded those CAB files and I created those folders on "C:\Archivos de programa\Windows Live\Mail\Proof". It works great after a WLM restart! ![]() Problem solved! ![]() I wouldn't have been able to find those CAB files myself. How did you do that? Eventually, why do some people have a list of 30+ spellcheckers to download on WLM while I had a list of four different flavors of English only?
