The "X-Antivirus:" header lines in your posts suggest that you have configured Avast! do scan news (and probably email, as well); and that may be the root of your problem. I don't let Avast! near my mail and news clients. Avast! scans my local system, so I am as confident at those scans allow that my computers are clean. No need to scan outbound. And Avast! will catch anything inbound in the on access scan, barring a zero-day virus. I had one of those come attached to unsolicited email, once. The on access scanner did not alert; neither did the back up on demand scanner.
