The TCP/IP connection was unexpectedly terminated by the server

The TCP/IP connection was unexpectedly terminated by the server error
message when trying to connect to newsgroup server news-server.neo.rr.com.
This is the correct format for the server name. No password is required.
This is a generic connection. I can connect okay to all Microsoft
communities. It uses the same port of 119 to connect. Per previous posts,
the opinion is that it is a security software issue. If it is a security
software issue, then why can I connect to this news server? It is using the
same port. I am trying to access news server using Windows Live Mail. I
have done multiple tweaks as suggested in previous posts with no success.

You may want to enable news logging to get more information.

To enable logging in Windows Live Mail select Tools, Options, Advanced,
Maintenance, Troubleshooting. Check the box to enable and click APPLY.
Run the Send/Receive/Synch, then click the box to uncheck and APPLY.

The logging information will be appended to WindowsLiveMail.log in the
same location as the WLM Store Folder (click the STORE FOLDER button
above Troubleshooting to see its location).

The WindowsLiveMail.log can grow to be very large. You may want to
rename (or delete) the current log file before starting logging in order
to get a more manageable file size. WLM will automatically create a new
log file when needed if one doesn't exist.

Re: The TCP/IP connection was unexpectedly terminated by the server

I actually already had it checked for Newsgroups. Are you saying after Sync
I should remove the check so nothing is selected? I tried to review the log
file and saw each time I tried to hit the road runner news server. I'm not
sure what I'm looking at or what I should be looking for. Below is just a
small sample. Please advise and thank you.

    [11:42:29.10] 00e4 Mail: NNTP [db]
Connecting to 'news-server.neo.rr.com' on port 119.

    [11:42:50.10] 00e4 Mail: NNTP [db]
    Connection to 'news-server.neo.rr.com' closed.

    [11:42:56.00] 00e4 Mail: NNTP [db]
Connecting to 'news-server.neo.rr.com' on port 119.

    [11:43:05.20] 00e4 Mail: NNTP [db]
    Connection to 'news-server.neo.rr.com' closed.

Didn't Road Runner drop NNTP service as a result of the noises being made by
NYAG Andrew Cuomo? You might need to find another NNTP service.

Wow. You're right. Thanks for the info. Where do you find a new NNTP
    service?

    Hi, steviegt.

As they say, GIYF: Google is your friend. ;<)

When I Google for "free news servers" I get over 200 million hits! I'm not
familiar with any of them, but others here will have some advice, I'm sure.

Some seem to like the free Motzarella server:
    http://news.motzarella.org/

You could also look for a better ISP. AT&T still has NNTP service.

I've been evaluating Motzarella (http://www.motzarella.org/). Free. You need
to provide a working email address to sign up (so they can send you a
password), but you can configure your client for posting using a munged, or
invalid email address (to avoid getting on spam lists).

I use Motzarella a lot in a couple of groups because the server does not
show the NNTP-Posting-Host IP address. But, as Gary VanderMolen points out,
AT&T did not drop Usenet completely; they just stopped carrying the
    'alt.binaries.*' hierarchy.

Which brings up one issue with Motzarella: Support for binaries is very
thin. Their site states that they will not carry binary groups (same as
AT&T). So, if you need access to 'alt.binaries.*', your only option will
probably be one of the fee-based premium services, such as Giganews, or
    Easynews.
