| | Can't nest WLM's categories like OE's groups? hi, when managing contacts in oe i was able to group contacts and then create email distribution lists from multiple groups - a very powerful feature. in wlm, the categories feature is completely flat - no nesting possible. I'm using 14.0.8050.1202 |

I personally am very happy the crippled OE message store didn't either. -- Wisdom and experience come with age, they say, but I wish I could remember the darn question |

| | Re: Can't nest WLM's categories like OE's groups? The OP says he uses v. 14, which doesn't have 'groups' - it has Categories, a rose by any other name. But that doesn't mean that 'it doesn't have any other organization methods.' Here are two suggestions: (1) Be creative with Nicknames. Give all your tennis mates nicknames like T Andy, T Bill, T Charlie. All your workmates get nicknames like W Charlie, W Dave and W Eddie. Then, when you want to mail your tennis team, type 'T ' in the To: field and all your tennis contacts will appear ready to be picked from. Charlie can easily figure in both lists. If all your T contacts belong to a category called Tennis, then you can just start typing 'Tennis' in the To: field. If you want to exclude some from a particular mailing, a click on the '+' sign will reveal all the contacts in that category; just delete the appropriate ones. (2) For even more segregation, use Live IDs to set up separate lists of contacts for work, family, hobby or whatever. These again can contain duplicates, but they won't synchronize. That means that if Charlie gets a new phone number, you'll have to change it in each list that he figures in. It's quick and easy to change your sign-in ID, and the moment you've done so, the contacts associated with that ID will be available. There are other possibilities, too, but that will do for now. -- Noel "Dave" <dave@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:OCUfVOtaJHA.4820@xxxxxx Quote: > WLM has groups, which are mail lists. > It doesn't have any other organization methods. | | Re: Can't nest WLM's categories like OE's groups? I wouldn't know about OE's contact management, so I have difficulty 'facing it'. I'm also quite serious - the systems I describe have served me well since I started using WLMail in the summer of 2006. I'm not quite sure what you mean by 'nested group', but if it means - as your OP suggests - a group of contacts harvested from other existing groups, then I don't see why you can't do just that in WLMail as well. Perhaps you'd care to explain. If the functions available in WLMail don't fit your requirements, then you might shell out for Outlook - a fully fledged Personal Information Manager which WLMail has no pretensions to be. -- Noel "thnewton" <thnewton@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:4D6F4C47-F014-4E30-8FC3-0A06813458B2@xxxxxx Quote: > Oh my, Ildhun.
