Outlook Express is included in Internet Explorer 6 and earlier versions(4, 5) and **only available** for use on computers running
    Windows XP.

    In Vista, your options are:
    1. Vista's included Windows Mail
    2. Windows Live Mail(stand alone email/news/rss reader client)
    3. Outlook(part of Office 2003 or Office 2007)
    4. Other third party email client

Yes, I have that situation, with a laptop running XP/OE and a new desktop PC
running Vista, and I wanted to be able to take an up-to-date email system
with me when away from home with the laptop.

You can't run OE on Vista. The Microsoft-based solution seems to be to
install Windows Live Mail on both computers. WLM looks very similar to OE,
but its underlying file structure is different. You should be able to
import your OE message folders and address book to WLM. (I haven't actually
done this yet, but it's a new year resolution to do so!)

Windows Mail was provided with Vista, but is not available on XP, and seems
to be a dead end. Goodness knows why MS are still shipping it with Vista
    instead of WLM.

    Good luck!
