Re: Technopeasant going crazy trying to install gmail in live mail

More info please..
Which version of Live Mail
RTW - get.live.com
Beta - download.live.com

Was any version of a Live application(Mail, Messenger etc)previously installed ?

Was the web installer or the full version installer used ?

Security software disabled(AV, malware scanners)?
Third Party Firewall(not Windows Firewall) disabled ?

Re: Technopeasant going crazy trying to install gmail in live mail

Winston

I followed instructions in Windows accounts internet connection wizard for
email to get.live.com for the download.

There was no other versions previously installed.

Used the web installer.

Nothing was disabled, security or firewall.

Thanks

Geoff

Thanks..then
Is your problem with installing Windows Live Mail or the installing Gmail(setup of a Gmail account) in Windows Live Mail(the title
of your post)?

Re: Technopeasant going crazy trying to install gmail in live mail

installing Live Mail first is the issue

I have not got to the part where I set up my Gmail in Live Mail, which I
believe is my only option if I want to use Windows Mail

Re: Technopeasant going crazy trying to install gmail in live mail

Windows Mail ???
If you wish to use Windows Mail with a Gmail account, your gmail account settings(in the gmail web interface) need to be configured
to permit Pop3/smtp. Search the Gmail help for the correct server(pop3/smtp), ports, SSL, and authentication settings.

If the above is not what you want...lets first get on the same page with terminology
Windows Live Mail = WLM = alternate email client for use in XP and Vista = capable of pop3, http, imap
Windows Mail = WM = Vista included email client for use in Vista=capable fo pop3

Re: Technopeasant going crazy trying to install gmail in live mail

Verify your settings
pop.gmail.com
smtp.gmail.com

Outgoing server requires authentication(use same server as incoming or enter full username and password on the outgoing settings
tab)

Username = <yourusername>@gmail.com
Password = enter correct password, and check remember

Incoming port 995
Outgoing Port 465
Both ports require SSL to be enabled('This server requires a secure connection')
