| | Windows Live Mail stopped working 2 days ago! Anyone help me with this problem? When I open WLM, I get the following message: Recovering the Windows Live mail database. Then Windows live mail could not be started. The application was unable to open the Windows live message store. Windows live mail was unable to locate its message database. If you have moved the database files to a new location then click OK to reset the databasepath to that location. Otherwise, click cancel to proceed, any existing messages found will be avaliable under Orphaned Accounts. (0x00000000. 2) If I click either OK or cancel, I then get the following message: Windows live mail could not be started. the application was unable to open the Windows Live mail message store. Your computer may be out of memory or your disk is full. (0.8000FFFF. 1400). Then I get the following message: Windows live mail could not be started because msmail.dllcould not be initialized. Windows live mail may not be correctly installed. I have re-installed WLM 3 times now, so thats not the problem. Using Vista and WLM was working fine upto 2 days ago. Any help would be happily recieved. (ideally in a simple format for me to understand!) Thank you |

| | Re: Windows Live Mail stopped working 2 days ago! It seems to me that the problem lies in your WLMail Message Store*. I suggest that you rename** the Message Store folder [to 'Windows Live Mail (old)] and restart WLMail. The Message Store will be re-created by WLMail. If WLMail starts successfully, that confirms the problem lied in the old Message Store. However, you will need to recreate your accounts and import** your Messages from your old Message Store. *Note that Windows Live Mail's Message Store, in its default location, is a hidden folder. So ensure that "Show hidden files and folders" is checked under Folder Options in Windows Explorer... The default location of Windows Live Mail's Message Store is: Vista: %localappdata%\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail (C:\Users\<Windows user account>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail) XP: %userprofile%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail (C:\Documents and Settings\<windows user account>\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail) **Messages can be dragged from the message store to your WLM interface as a method of importing them, or you can import messages directly by Browsing to your old (renamed) Message Store with File->Import->Messages->Windows Live Mail->Next->Browse... -- Cheers, Peter.R (Windows Vista Home Premium with Windows Live Mail 14.0.8050.1202) "There are more things in Heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy." - Shakespeare --------------- "James" <James@xxxxxx> wrote in message news 5BBC21C-D1EF-4E38-8C0C-DBC57593C98A@xxxxxxQuote: > Anyone help me with this problem? > > When I open WLM, I get the following message: > > Recovering the Windows Live mail database. > > Then > > Windows live mail could not be started. | | Re: Windows Live Mail stopped working 2 days ago! Where in that folder is it supposed to be, because as I said,I can not find any Message Store folder in the following location: C:\Users\Bob\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail. There is a folder called C:\Users\Bob\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail\Storage Folders which has four folders in it: Deleted Items, Drafts, Reecovered Items, and Sent Items. I did not find the "Message Store " folder in there. Is there an exact path that would take me to it? Does anyone know if Microsoft is aware of this problem as there are a lot of people complaining about it? | | Re: Windows Live Mail stopped working 2 days ago! Hi Peter: Thanks for the advice, it worked exactly as you said it would. I had not got back to the blog as I went to Microsoft's help and they had me running all around Uninstalling and reinstalling WLM five times and getting info for them. I went through three different "experts" all repeating the uninstall, etc. I thought they would have the correct solution to problems with their software. How dumb of me. Thanks again, Bob.
