| | sync contacts: wlm desktop to windows live mail (cloud) I see that I can create contacts on the web version of windows live and when I sign in on windows live desktop the desktop app uses the web based contacts. I want to go the other way. I have lots of contacts organized into group in windows live mail desktop and I have not contacts at all on the web based windows live. How do I get my contacts, with groups intact, up to the web based windows live. I tried signing in on the desktop version and using the contact import function, but got a flat list (my groups disappeared). It was unclear to me if that list was coming from the .contact files for from my wab. So, bottom line how do I push my contacts from the desktop app ("default" contacts) up to an individual windows live mail account (web-based). Hope this is clear. The lingo is insane with between the desktop and windows live stuff. --Howie |

| | Re: sync contacts: wlm desktop to windows live mail (cloud) In WLM 14.... Groups are called Categories. If a Live ID is in use in WLM, the those groups(categories)setup are also available in the web interface and those contacts are synchronized between both the source/destination(WLM/web Interface People) If a Live ID is not in use then Groups/Categories do not sync to the web. WLM import function does **not** import Groups/Categories. The web interface export function does **not** export Groups/Categories, thus an exported web interface *.csv file is of little value since groups/categories can not be exported or imported. Thus the only method in the web interface is to use the Contact manager tool and copy or move the Contacts to an appropriately created Group. Note: With respect to Live ID 1. If signing on to Hotmail(http://mail.live.com) in the web interface, the same Contacts(People)can be accessed by logging on to http://contacts.live.com where one will find the same exact tools accessible from one's Hotmail account. 2. If you are using a Live ID that is not Hotmail capable(e.g. third party email address registered as a Live ID), then Contacts.live.com is your only Contact web interface manager. (The same import/export constraints still apply) Fyi...the desktop name in the email client was dropped about a year ago. The current term. Local email client = Windows Live Mail Web Interface = People or Windows Live Hotmail(the latter has an link to People) -- ...winston ms-mvp mail "Howie" <Howie@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:7442F87E-6515-4BA1-8323-F17BA2E61C45@xxxxxx Quote: > I see that I can create contacts on the web version of windows live and when > I sign in on windows live desktop the desktop app uses the web based > contacts.
