| | Quick Views- can "all news" be excluded from it? I see where things can be added to Quick Views, but the "all news" item is grayed out and not uncheckable. I'd like to remove it, since I have a high number of unread news items, and when Quick Views needs to recount them (e.g. whenever the program does self-maintenance) my machine's CPU is crippled for a very long time. |

Just a suggestion: right click " All new ", click '" Mark as read ", BEFORE you exit the window. t-4-2 "Milhouse Van Houten" <btvs@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:#vajr2tcJHA.5788@xxxxxx Quote: > I see where things can be added to Quick Views, but the "all news" item is > grayed out and not uncheckable. Though you can turn off the quick views in the layout menu and then just read your new messages in each newsgroup or email account. Myself I have it turned off and have added the Next Unread item to the menu bar. Then once I've read all the new messages in either an email account, or a newsgroup, I'm asked if I'd like to move to the next message folder with unread messages. If you've read all the messages you want to read in an area, you can mark the remaining unread messages as read by using the keyboard shortcut CTRL-SHIFT-A. -- Roy Smith http://roysmith1959.spaces.live.com/ |

| | Re: Quick Views- can "all news" be excluded from it? I did that, thanks. It's no longer visible in the UI. But I was later horrified to see that Quick Views *still does its thing anyway*! It's the beast which cannot be stopped. | | Re: Quick Views- can "all news" be excluded from it? I have the latest 14. Yes, I'm sure it could be stopped if you make a point to mark things as read, but I don't. I definitely expected, though, when it was no longer available in the UI that it wouldn't update. After a recent restart, however, I noticed my CPU very active after staring the program. Toggling QV on showed that it was incrementing again from the beginning. That it was starting over was surprising, since the last time I closed the program, message compaction didn't take place (I've found before that when it does, QV needs to start from scratch). | | Re: Quick Views- can "all news" be excluded from it? Quick View options are display related and only indicate something existing elsewhere. Enabling/Disabling QV items doesn't modify incoming/outgoing settings or activity. -- ...winston ms-mvp mail "Milhouse Van Houten" <btvs@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:eeYQ$uigJHA.5000@xxxxxx Quote: > I have the latest 14.
